RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted October 5, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 5, 2016 some from last night, started in crewe where the WAG arrived in from Llandudno 175 for holyhead and one for cardiff and then my train came in, hence the reason i was wearing my HST 40 "lucky badge", last night was my maiden solo voyage on the NMT, a nice short hop crewe to derby via the WCML and lichfield into derby an enjoyable first drive, a lot to think about, i'd gone throught he manual what felt like a hundred times throughout the day to be sure i changed ends correctly and disposed of it right, hopefully i did! nice to get it up to 100mph on the wcml between crewe and stafford and armitage and lichfield, a really nice train to drive, feel quite privileged to be allowed to train up on it and drive it to be honest, even more special that my first drive was on the 40th anniversary to the day since they were introduced and the day i passed out on them i met Sir Kenneth Grange! got it again tomorrow to holyhead, not before i go there today with a 56 though

Siggie in the east
Congrats jim. Question..... as the HSTs will be withdrawn in the comming years, do you think more NMTs will be created for NR from the redundant power units? Regards
s182ggu
Congrats, Jim - another string to your bow! Hopefully you wont have to drive this at 30mph quite so often as the Class 37s!
RMweb Premium newbryford Posted October 5, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 5, 2016 Congrats jim. Question..... as the HSTs will be withdrawn in the comming years, do you think more NMTs will be created for NR from the redundant power units? Regards From memory: NwR originally had enough power cars for two NMTs (I think there used to be five in yellow), but dropped a second NMT as it wouldn't be allowed on a number of lines in the South due to gauging issues, hence the unofficial "NMT2" that is made up from Mk2s. More likely that high speed testing will become the remit of 100mph diesel locos such as 68s. Cheers, Mick

For the routes it is cleared for though, wouldnt 2 cover the ground quicker and more frequently? RMweb Gold big jim Posted October 9, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 9, 2016 Not in a photo mood today but did a carlisle to Nuneaton trip with a light engine 56, from there it went to washwood heath, why it went via the wcml I don't know! Wigan for 45 mins, not a single pie shop open on a Sunday though! And into nuneaton, unusual move, from the Wcml slow line to the Leicester line, change ends and back through the high level 'birmingham' platform London tomorrow!
