According to NR the last two of the programme of 66 conversions to equip high risk AOCL crossings with barriers was completed in December last year. The one on our branch was done some time back and was done very quickly, just a couple of weeks from start of work to commissioning. https://www.networkrail.co.uk/news/2015/dec/programme-complete-barriers-open-crossings/
RMweb Gold big jim Posted June 21, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 21, 2016 those are the fellas mike, its the contradictory name that makes me smile, automatic open crossing (with barriers)! apparently the upgrade costs a lot less than completley replacing an AOCL with a conventional barrier crossing

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted June 23, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 23, 2016 a few days worth of pics today, starting on sunday witht he Schenker train i worked to basford hall the next lot are mainly scenery shots, one evening i took one of my fellow trainee's out for a drive to explore the local area, he normally works the boston steel from washwood heath and lives in northamptonshire so mountains are something of a novelty to him, we did the coast road through aberdovey, towen and at llwyngwril we went up the hill overlooking the coast where i grabbed some piccies llwyngwril looking towards barmouth checking out the zoom, thats the church in barmouth! and the swing part of the bridge then down to fairbourne and over to penrhyn point just in time to see an arriva train depart for machynlleth friog avalanche shelter (from penrhyn point) 158 climbing away from fairbourne the next night we went out for another drive in 2 vehicles to have a look at "hellfire pass" which both trainees were impressed with (and i was admittedly), then when it was time to come back down the other side we ended up in llanwchllyn so we called into the Bala lake railway for a nose where "alice" was in steam having worked that days trains this loco used to belong to my dad until a few years back we then headed back towards the coast, splitting up at dolgellau as i took the other trainee back round the coast and the other guys went straight back to machynlleth stopped at morfa mawddach and this time we stopped at friog where we saw the same train as the night before! and thats as they say is that, simulator assessment today and back home

RMweb Gold big jim Posted June 27, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted June 27, 2016 Had a well deserved weekend off with my works mobile switched off! However one pic from a work collegue, 56302 has made its way back north from minehead and worked a Bescot to sutton brifmdge ballast at the weekend In tonight, recording round Birmingham all night, even a trip to ridditch with a couple of 37s!
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted June 28, 2016 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted June 28, 2016 some from last night, started in birmingham international, the train came in with 37057 leading and after a change ends it was now going to trail to stafford this loco is possibly one of the worst colours to try and photograph at night! the other end had 37254 in intercity mainline livery and away to stafford change ends and back to ridditch via bescot and birmingham new st! and into redditch change ends and away again, this time to washwood heath (remembering to get the pantograph on mentor dropped before we ran out of wires!) after changing ends at washwood heath it was back non stop through new st to soho, across to perry barr and back into new st from the proof house end where we stopped and changed ends again! then this time we went new st to proof house, duddeston perry barr and soho, basically doing the same run as before but in the opposite direction, then it was non stop through new st again and over to aston (again) where we did a right and headed to Litchfield city and ultimately alrewas jn and on to Derby and then walked back to the station and home EMT Meridian and HST in Derby by jim scott, on Flickr and that was that
