RMweb Premium newbryford Posted September 15, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 15, 2015 I know it's exaggerated by the telephoto lens, but the track under the VTEC 225 DVT and first coach looks really ropey, with some serious attention needed to the top and line. I wonder if there's a slight switchback in there that exaggerates it as well? Cheers, Mick

Midnight-Freight
"GBRf 66 heading north, VTEC service heading south" Looks like you may have been photobombed by a Colas 60 in this pic? Possibly a stupid question but presumably when you are held at a signal or in a loop and leave the loco to take the pics the signalman gives you an idea of how long you will be waiting and you don't find yourself legging it back to the loco because the signal has changed? RMweb Gold big jim Posted September 16, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2015 actually i was photobombed by 60002 that i left there the day before i only take my pics when i know ive got time to do it, (and of course when its safe to do so), rotherham for example, if the signal for the mainline from sheffield is showing a green i know i'm not going anywhere any time soon so have time for pics and to get myself into position to photograph whatever is coming from that direction othertimes a quick look at the schedule will tell you if your in a loop for any length of time so you know roughly when to get ready to go however a lot of the time route knowledge comes into play, sometimes its actually quicker in the long run to wait for the signal controlling the exit from a loop to change from a yellow to green so you can get upto speed on the mainline quicker, elford loop for example, if you leave on a single yellow the next signal is a fair distance away and out of sight so you have to crawl up to it incase its still 'on', if you wait for the exit signal to go green you know the next signal will be a yellow at a minimum so can open it up a lot earlier, if that in turn goes green then its away to go
Midnight-Freight
Thanks, that all makes sense. I wasn't saying I thought you were being irresponsible by leaving the loco unattended incidentally. :-)

RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted September 16, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted September 16, 2015 I really like the contrast the Colas colours give against the dark clouds - definitely hi-vis locos!

Don't like it on a class 37, but the 47/56/66/70 and 60 are just awesome.

RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted September 18, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 18, 2015 I was once told that the Class 50 (D400's to me) bogies were also interchangeable with the Deltics. Did they have such distinguishing features Jamie

brianusa
If the loco is painted yellow, why does it have to have another yellow panel? Brian.
RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted September 18, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted September 18, 2015 some from today had to drop a van off in derby and spotted this 57605 couple of marcus37s steeds so it was up to doncaster to collect a couple of 60s, the same ones that were there when i took 60002 up there on monday, problem being i was blocked in by 60002 so i had to move that first before i could get to the other 2, moved it to one side, shut it down and got the other pair ready to roll into the station to change ends in platform 2 before heading south towards up decoy, through the yard and over to St catherines jn where i changed ends again, a proper pain in the bum as the isolation cocks to allow me to drag the rear loco dead were in the middle cabs so every change end involved getting up and down from the loco 4 times! St catherines Jn and round to hexthorpe jn where i sat for 20 mins to wait for my path old and new logos and off to toton, ended up on the fuel plant with them and that was that, off to a hotel for the night as im in early tomorrow and would have gone well over 12 hours if i went home

RMweb Premium DRS Crewe On A Mission Posted September 18, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 18, 2015 Fantastic set of photos Jim! Thank you for sharing them. Maybe Hornby could release one with the flat helmet on the side and another with the new tilted helmet on the side. Two different styles, two different running numbers. Just an idea Hornby...
