RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted October 5, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2014 no its definatly on auto Does it allow you to select what the auto-focus picks on Jim? You might have changed that setting possibly?
RMweb Gold big jim Posted October 5, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 5, 2014 Does it allow you to select what the auto-focus picks on Jim? You might have changed that setting possibly? i think thats the problem, the focus point moves around rather than being in the centre, if you look at some of the pics the focus is a couple of wagons back rather than the front of a train, i think maybe the bright headlights on some locos dont help either
RMweb Gold big jim Posted October 6, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 6, 2014 Got this off ebay for a couple of quid for the sony camera, a selfie monopod.... That extends to about 1M And the head swivels, notice there is also a screw hole in the handle for attaching to a tripod, so that combined with the tripod ahould get me some nice new angles on shots, obviously not to be used near ohle!!

RMweb Gold Popular Post big jim Posted October 9, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 9, 2014 much better conditions for photography the last few days, the full moon certainly helped out with this lot, no tripod, just placed the camera on various walls, signal post telephones etc!! first up banbury rd on the bicester line, ballast drop into the stockpile for the redoubling of the line to bicester 70809 waiting with the diggers offload the train tried a long exposure shot when a van drove in front of the camera, quite pleased with the result though!! 1st class 70 on mars? plough on ready to depart amazingly all the above pictures were taken between 01:00 and 02:00!! then onto last nights job, a lovely clear leicester, much better than the fog earlier in the week ghost train passing by waiting the road full moon and those lot were taken at 03:00!! same job tonight but not going to bother with my proper camera as i'm happy with those lot

This is what i got with it, it reaches up about 3m i recon Looking forward to trying it out and about

RMweb Gold big jim Posted October 12, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 12, 2014 The photos are really crisp the new camera was well worth buying. its not a patch on the proper camera considering its 18mp but i'm pleased with the shots, just need to update the firmware in it, (roundhouse says it improves lens control), going to be interesting to have a play with it on the layout too, especially in video mode, may try and do that this week sometime

Depth of field isnt quite good enough for the smaller scale but I suspect most video cams will struggle. I have more stills taken on it to upload though. RMweb Gold big jim Posted October 14, 2014 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 14, 2014 a few from today using the sony camera on the pole, all freehand pics warrington bank quay, taken WELL away from any ohle!! in chirk, after dark, waiting to set back into kronospan with the camera at full reach! and just to show the difference between normal height and 'full reach' these photos are from the same vantage point on the ground as i say, both freehand so a little blurry but pleased with the results under the yard lights
trisonic
Dunno why but I’ve always preferred photos of the “Railways” where the camera is on the same level as the driver. Bit bloody harder over here.....still doable with that camera, however. I managed to pick up a copy of “BackTrack" yesterday and realized that over 90% of the photos were/are from front ¾ views. I’m don’t know what the answer is to that conundrum, though! Thanks for all your photos, Jim. Best, Pete.
yorkie_pudd
The pictures using both extensions sure give a different perspective you don't normally get unless stood on a bridge showing roof detail etc. if you didn't know you had both mountings in use one would say a cherrypicker was used or someone taped you to underside of the bridge lol.
