Melangoose
Had a trip out on the trains earlier in the month. We went from Swindon to Paddington on an HST, then first trip on an IEP to Cardiff, got the Arriva loco hauled to Newport and then an HST back to Swindon. My Dad, Uncle Les and good friend Steve Adcock were all in attendance, great company and great Day Out.

Melangoose
Hi Folks, Just to let you know that Melangoose will be at the Worthing Model Railway Exhibion this coming weekend. Not much activity apart from arrival of some ECC Clay Tigers, which are bang on for my 2003 ish time period. The reason for the lack of postings on Melangoose is that I have been working hard with the hobby room project. Which has come on a lot in the last year or so. I will start a new thread in the coming months for progress.
P.C.M
well jealous of your new train room Nigel, that looks great. Looking forwards to see what you plan to do. Enjoy the exhibition always nice to see a few pics of the layout. Cheers Peter.
Melangoose
Thanks Pete for your remarks. The new layout will be based in the Western Region (in recent times), an industrial town near the English and Welsh border.

Charlie75
Just read through this thread, and what a great little layout. Beautifully modelled, and some lovely stock. The new railway room looks amazing too. I look forward to seeing the new layout develop.
Melangoose
Had a great 2nd day at the Worthing Exhibition. Having had such a good time operating my little Cornish layout. I am now having a bit of a wobble with my potential Hobbyroom layout. I had decided about 2 months ago on a plan and a setting of an edge of an industrial town on the edge of the Welsh border (using the type of trains that you would see around the Hereford and Gloucester areas). But having run all those lovely China Clay freight trains, I am now wondering whether I should Model the Cornish main line. I have a good collection of wagons available (15x CDA’s, 6x Imreys JIA’s, 4x ECC Clay Tigers, 4x Traffic Services Polybulks, 2x Cargowaggons & 12x Metalair PCA’s). I am going to have a good think of what to do.

Whatever you do, ENJOY.
Melangoose
I did have an idea before for a Cornish mainline layout with a yard on the inside (couple of loops and dead ends), the kind of place where crews are changed or trains remarshalled for the journey ahead. With passing HST’s 150’s, Voyagers and a Night Riviera. Layout mock-up More pondering time, me thinks. Edited July 25, 2019 by Melangoose
RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted October 1, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 1, 2018 (edited) Or flip it over and have it as a yard where the Melangoose branch joins the main. Then a line can leave the yard, climb round the back of the fiddleyard and arrive at Melangoose. Edited October 1, 2018 by PaulRhB

RMweb Premium Temeraire Posted October 1, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2018 the Melangoose branch joins the main After chatting with Nigel yesterday I was going to suggest the same!

RMweb Premium ELTEL Posted October 1, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 1, 2018 Hi Nigel Looking at 217 you seem to have the best of both worlds in that a large roundy roundy layout for the times you just want the trains go by with the opportunity of operating it if you wish with the potential of the track plan been able to operate it. Plus the great advantage of a branch of to Melangoose which is a super layout. Another advantage is that you could develop a new exhibition layout in the future to operate in the the place of Melangoose Keep up the good work Terry
RMweb Gold Revolution Mike B Posted October 2, 2018 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 2, 2018 I couldn't believe how small Melangoose was - it looks much bigger in the pictures Nigel. Great attention to detail and really good mate! I'm liking the plan for the roundy roundy, plenty of scope to run long trains and Paul & Ian's idea seem very feasible. Melangoose
After a couple of days pondering, I have finally come to my senses, and reverted back to my original idea of the Hobby Room layout being on the outskirts of an industrial town. I will start a new thread on it next week when track laying comenses. Thank you for all the ideas and encouragement.
