Hugh Flynn
I have a photo in one of my books of a class 47 in railfreight grey. This would also look great on layout. P.C.M
Great little layout Nigel, I must admit I prefer the earlier period but those EWS liv 37s do look nice. I really like the pics of 50019 on ballast I remember seeing the loco a few times back in the day. Cheers Peter.
Melangoose
Hi Guys Thanks for the nice comments re the late 1980's look. RMweb Gold PaulRhB Posted June 12, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 12, 2013 photo night tomorrow PaulI get confused, blame the shifts! I like both eras so I think, as its only a small collection , that there'd be room for both sets in the car and he could run early in the mornings and swap to modern for the afternoon (I'm not suggesting the same to Kevin we'd need an extra van!) SGJ
I like your layout, and loved the nostalgia photos with the class 50`s, what I also like is it is how the Cornish feel to the layout comes through with the stock and the platforms. Your target date of 2000 is nice, could you use class 47`s and 67`s on a parcel / mail train dragging a pcv around, it might add to the variety of workings Simon
Melangoose
Hi Re using Class 47 & 67 on Melangoose (Circa 2000). The Class 67 with a PCV is a bit if a non starter I am sorry to say, the piviating sector plate siding is only 42 inches long (Loco + 2.5 coaches or Loco and 5 CDA's or 3 Silver Bullets). The Res 47 on occasional use on clay traffic is good idea (we will have to see what Mr Bachmanns Res 47/7 is like). RMweb Gold mudmagnet Posted June 17, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 17, 2013 Great layout! Only just discovered this one! Very simple track plan, yet looks perfect. I like the idea re the fiddle yard behind the layout and simple sector plate. Do you have any more exhibitions planned?
Melangoose
Hi Re Exhibitions, Melangoose will be at Southampton MRS show at Eastleigh, which is at the end of next January and is having a Cornwall China Clay feature (x2 other layouts). And the "Goose" will be "spreading it's wings" by attending the Nottingham show next March. I am limiting appearances to twice a year (to fit in with work and family life). Currently the fiddle yard sector plate is in the workshop for modification work, which hopefully would mean better and more frequent operation when at shows. This was a minor problem experienced at the Wimborne Exhibition in April with fellow operator "Hampshire Hog". Nigel
Melangoose
Hi Guys Its been 6 months since my last post, I have made some changes to the layout and we have some new arrivals. It is 6 days until the Southampton Ex at Barton Peveril college so here is a brief update. New longer Sector Plate - 3 Track sector plate replaces the old single track. This will increase the amount of trains on the layout and ease the problem of turning trains (use to have to take either the loco off and place at the other end or with the wagons. New Lighting Tower from Express Models (Quality) I do like a challenge and making my model of 150265 in Wessex Trains livery has tested my patience and ability to the peak. Must say a big Thank You to Martyn Read and David Lund, without their help this would not have been possible. I am well pleased with this model I must stress that the livery is not 100% accurate but my take on it. I will try to take some more pictures next weekend with the new locos that are now on the roster. Regards Nigel
