RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted August 17, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted August 17, 2015 At first I t thought "oh no not another fake identity" when I saw 7020 'Dinmore Manor'. It must be on loan from the WSR... unless there are two of them! Poor quick cameraphone snaps taken at the Marina.
RichardTrevithick
Possibly the last chance to photograph operational class 20's on the devon main line tomorrow as DRS are running a Nuneaton to Kingswear and return charter. The outward train is due at Paignton 1243 to 1252 and arrives at Kingswear at 1324. The return journey departs at 1958 and is at Paignton 2019 - 2024. Garry Morris
Hope to see the assault on Goodrington bank. RedArrows only a flypast from now on. Let's hope this isn't the last Torbay Flyer. I can't recall 20s ever going to Kingswear before, most other mainline classes have except 24\26\27. Don't think we've seen any at Paignton for a long time. Good weather ATM clear blue sky Here in Cornwall.
Garry Morris
Correction SDR class 20 did appear at a diesel gala according to my records back in the 90's.

RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted April 3, 2017 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 3, 2017 Nice photos, John, and it looks like a really nice restoration job. Only problem is that someone seems to have put the nameplates from another loco on it by mistake.
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 21, 2017 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 21, 2017 Nice photos, John, and it looks like a really nice restoration job. Only problem is that someone seems to have put the nameplates from another loco on it by mistake. That's what's they named it when it was bought! Another shot, this time one l took in 2010. They don't now seem to use Longdown siding anymore. Out in the middle of nowhere l suppose and a long way from the station!
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted February 9, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted February 9, 2018 A new visitor to Churston Shed. A USATC S160 has arrived. A poor photo snapped from the top deck of the bus. Don't know from whence it came. Maybe the Churnet valley Railway. It will be an interesting performer on the branch!

88D
Many years ago I was at Kingswear when Union of SA arrived on a special. I took my son, aged about 12, to the end of the platform for a look. Very impressed, but then another viewer tried to explain to us that there were more rivets on the other side of the loco than the side we could see;and my son immediately lost interest, never to regain it again. He said ‘you’re not going to end up like him, are you?’ I hope I haven’t!
brianusa
You're right John it's this beastie. s160 5197.jpg For a moment I thought it looked like the Looe line. (I know; too heavy, etc.) But it would have been interesting to ponder! Brian.

RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 26, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2018 What an ugly loco. On the contrary, l rather like the look of it. Each to their own l suppose. T'would be dull old world if we all liked the same! Close your eyes because there's some more coming but then there's something from LT! At Paignton today Service engine today. I must look out my Bachy version of one of these!

RMweb Premium Legend Posted April 26, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 26, 2018 Wow certainly looks a beast . They are kind of losing the GWR atmosphere though
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted April 26, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted April 26, 2018 That went quite a few years ago after they sold a lot of the original GW locos. Always was a 'tourist people mover' rather than a preserved railway. For that go down the road to Buckfastleigh! Always nice to see all the visiting engines though.
LBRJ
I like the look of the s160. its a utilitarian machine built to do a job, and it shows!
Rivercider
I had never before seen one of those big USATC beasts until a couple of weeks ago on the West Somerset where I saw 6046. I agree with the above comments about the Dartmouth Steam Railway, it is a lovely scenic ride, but for proper atmosphere I think the South Devon Railway is much better. Earlier this week I had a trip from Churston to Kingswear in the rain. 5197 in the yard at Churston 24/4/2018 L94 struggles into Churston on the 10.30 Paignton to Kingswear with load 7, 24/4/2018 L94 after arrival at Kingswear 24/4/2018, cheers
RMweb Gold Re6/6 Posted May 25, 2018 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted May 25, 2018 A landmark. The Devon Belle is 100 years old today https://www.thebreeze.com/southdevon/news/local-news/restored-panorama-carriage-gets-first-roll-out/ My favourite railway coach. Probably because when I worked for the Dart Valley Railway many moons ago me and my old friend Cliff Rainbow, who later became a traction inspector at Crawley and sadly passed away several years ago, were responsible for the second internal re-furbishment. We re-made and fitted all the internal mahogany window framing and the chocolate ‘Formica’ internal cladding. Still there as far as I know. The new hardwood came from the then UK Atomic Energy Authority furniture factory in Staverton. The original refurb when the Dart Valley acquired the coach (1968?) was ordered and supervised by Eileen Holder, wife of the then Chairman Terry Holder one of the best and most respected bosses that I have ever worked for. Note the other observation car travelling in the opposite direction. https://www.britishpathe.com/video/devon-belle
pb_devon
OK, John, I have to ask...why did UKAEA have a furniture factory at Staverton, or have I missed something subtle here! Paul
