A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

:offtopic: Oh I dunno there's hint of Red Devon soil in these shots:

attachicon.gifRiver-sherbourne.jpg

but that's not pollution according to the EA just freak circumstances.

And here's a picture of Coventry reburying it's river under of raft of brick, concrete and steel in 1958

In relation to the last picture, not much evidence of H&S on site or in general.

Is it me or has the lorry just eaten someone?

Tough times then......

I hope to be in a position in due course to be able to either confirm or deny that there will or won't be a contingent (or non-contingent) from the South West (or anywhere else) visiting the show or elsewhere on the Sunday or some other day.

My advance ticket sits ready for use so all being well I shall be sitting and breakfasting in said location on Sunday morning prior to making a collection from Eileen (more likely Anita) at the emporium of that name.  In the meanwhile I shall tomorrow be attending, by invitation, an operating session at the Spinney Light Railway which I have never visited before but which rather matches my idea of the ideal garden railway  (plus in the meanwhile I need to further mug-up the signalbox diagrams in order to try to avoid making a total pillock of myself when parachuted in to one of the 'boxes - knowing one or two of those involved I can just see some awkward g*t dropping me into Spinney 'box and popping off for a cuppa while I slog on)

What a wonderful railway! A true and worthy successor to Greywood Central. Have fun.

I shall definitely try to.  And talking of Greywood Central next month there is a family a day at the Great Cockrow which I shall no doubt be attending as my son is a volunteer there.  BTW John Butt their CME - who you might know, or know of, died some weeks ago.

I might well get dumped in Everglades Junction 'box which is great fun as it's laid out for working by two people although I've worked it on my own on family days (about 20 years ago!) or even get banished to Cockrow Hill which I've also worked in the past.  Or maybe that nice Mr Lester might let me have a drive for once.

What grey do you use on those white rooves Robin? It looks good

I don't think you can beat Precision roof dirt but Railmatch is good too and I think Glenn of this parish uses it.

Best advice I can give is use lots of different shades,

Off the top of my head I have about 4 different modern image shades (western roof grey, rail freight, falcon grey and another.) GW wagon grey, and Phoenix roof dirt. Roofs on the real thing were always different shades due to the different paint times, weathering etc. So mixing lots of shades gives a really good effect.

My backlog of white roofs is getting ridiculous now, really need a weekend of good weather to set the spray booth outside. The wife and children are on holiday with her parents for a week in June, so fingers crossed the weather will be good and I can get it done!

I was interested to see the link to Great Cockrow from the Spinney site. I recall visiting the great cockrow as I lived in the area from age 5 to 18. Fond memories.

If you are having toilet trouble, may I recommend All Bran. A double, however, might be a bad idea.

All Bran is no good for Coeliacs so I recommend stoned prunes + custard + figs + gunpowder thrashed in a Nutribullet. About a pint will do it, unless of course, the whole thing explodes before you drink it.
