Good evening folks,

I remember travelling to Salisbury from Bristol via Westbury some 10 years ago and was amazed at the amount of vegetation striking the train at Dilton Marsh.

I checked the 150 unit at Salisbury for paint scratches but there seemed to be no obvious additional scrapes.

Doesn't sound like things have got any better 🙁

Cheers, Nigel.

I remember, back in the (very) bad old days of Railtrack and privatised infrastructure maintenance companies, having to berate Amey Rail for their total lack of attention to the overhanging vegetation on the Falmouth branch, which actually ended up scratching the Royal Train! I had received a bollOcking from the Royal Train Superintendent and I certainly wasn't going to let that just rest with me!

Sunshine and showers, a cracking present with bonus of a trip up the Dart on the paddle steamer Kingswear Castle celebrating her 100 year birthday.

Wow Rob, I came here to ask if anyone had gone to see the Grange and here you are actually on it. Brilliant.

I bet the smell was good too; all that new metal and Paint, not you dear heart.

It's a damn good looking Loco.

So where is the Grange then?

Isn't that one in my photo? It's green, got a copper capped chimney and has Great Western on the side.

I believe the Grange is at the West Somerset Railway until the end of July.

Lovely snaps Robin.

Does 7827 have a rocking grate fitted to the firebox?

I know I am not Robin... but in answer to your question as far as I am aware, no its standard GWR / BR firebars

It’s also just struck me…

I’m not sure if this is common knowledge, but I started with GWR in March 2022 as a Conductor, becoming a Train Manager last year and now I’m an Acting Guards Manager at Exeter. 😁

Quiet literally the best thing I’ve ever done was to leave teaching! I think I’ve spoken to a lots of people individually. So no secret!

Regards,

Nick.

Small Prairies - my favourite locos by miles.  Great shots. A bit low on coal?

Also noted the back of the cab has been painted black?

Rubbish ballasting, too much on the left of the turnout, not enough on the  right and a few bald patches in the four foot.

Someone said to keep it away from the rodding, so they did.

From a rather moist Buckfastleigh we see small prairie 5526 running round.

Imported ballast? That colour looks more like the stuff they use north of the border.
