RMweb Gold Edwardian Posted October 30, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2015 Why not the village hall on the prototype? And/or cemetery gates?
brianusa
In todays world a fly tip is possible at such a place. Lots of junk, old furniture, appliances, etc. But luckily for the time period of the model, doubtful! Brian.
RMweb Gold Edwardian Posted October 30, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2015 Found a couple more from Station Approach:
RMweb Gold Edwardian Posted October 30, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 30, 2015 Or, take the same approach as the 2mm Totnes model; take buildings from the real place but just move them about to suit! Plenty of great scenes in or near South Brent. How about a pub?
RMweb Gold NHY 581 Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 Morning. Any chance of a few branch passenger images for the week end, Sir ? Rob.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 How about some allotments for that corner ? Lots of little sheds, etc. Oh, and praries pulling anything , please.
RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 There are plenty of trees on the down side at the west end of the station, but not many on the up side. Be careful of photos of the village hall, as it has been added to in recent years. Not sure how old it actually is, and whether it was there in Robin's era. In reality, the lane from Aish crosses the railway over that west-end bridge, just at the point that Station Road joins it.

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 Allotment as Su suggests. Best idea so far (apart from T Pole). Having seen round the Back of Robs Houses (on his layout.....................) I reckon he could produce that scene with no trouble at all and the veg is available as well (some foreign stuff is it Noch?) Tally ho.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 31, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 The village hall is clearly seen in the book Steam in Devon by Peter Gray dated early 60s but like CK says not sure about '47 but the cemetery was there.I do like that gate entrance. RMweb Gold Edwardian Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 (edited) My best guess is that the Village Hall dates from around the '20s. I am sure I recall that my '30s map of Brent includes it. But, yes, you would need to work out the extent of the original structure. EDIT: It appears that I may have to concede a failing memory; I'll keep digging: Edited October 31, 2015 by Edwardian
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 31, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 (edited) Don't laugh but Langley do this casting of a Lych gate. Dart Castings do some gravestones too. Edited October 31, 2015 by gwrrob
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 You could mangle a Wills kits and have a GWR pagoda roof to the gate.
RMweb Gold Edwardian Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 Off at a tangent, but I'd love to see a picture of the (long-since demolished) Corn Mill next to the viaduct to the west of the station. It's on my 1906 map and I notice it's still included on the 1947 map.
RMweb Gold Edwardian Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 (edited) Bingo! Britain from Above, July 1930. Clearly shows the Village Hall and the cemetery. More detail of the Village Hall building from a post-war shot. Edited October 31, 2015 by Edwardian
cary hill
It was the ideal site for the South Hams Sculpture Park seen here with a temporary display featuring many of Brent's local characters. Can you spot the Finchings on their tandem broom?
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 I almost wet my pads when I looked at that previous post; I can't take shock at my age. The new Colletts look rather tasty. What's the verdict as Hattons have a BCK for a very reasonable price. Quackers.
RMweb Gold gwrrob Posted October 31, 2015 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 What's the verdict.I was thinking of cutting some of the walling in the foreground and using the Langley Lych gate. What about the trees though.
RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 They look OK but could you do a wider view so we can see how they look in a 'bigger' scene? P
RMweb Gold colin penfold Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 that could work, Lytch gate cut into the old section of wall would suggest the church is behind you in the operating well

RMweb Premium Mallard60022 Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 31, 2015 Don't bother that looks brilliant; well in scale and fits very well at that end. Proper job..... A. R. Borial.
RMweb Gold colin penfold Posted October 31, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 31, 2015 Rob I am a little worried about those trees. Two odd trees standing there don't look quite right to me Wouldn't the GWR have cut them down? Perhaps a nice row of poplars behind the wall, parallel to the platform
