A Nod To Brent - a friendly thread, filled with frivolity, cream teas and pasties. Longing for the happy days in the South Hams 1947.

I see they haven't fixed the wonky lamp on the City!

Brian.

It's a half hearted attempt as the City hasn't been designated a train yet as I don't have the proper stock for it.Another anomaly on ANTB !

I haven't bought many locos off ebay but this 4575 class was a bargain as it runs beautifully over my electrofrog points on the crossover without stalling.Assuming the rails are clean of course. ;)

All I can find in my collection is a Collett tender on a 'Hall' in a front three quarter view so nit really very clear alas, got a couple on Hawksworh tenders attached to 'Counties' but that's it in the scannable stuff I'm afraid.

I've found a couple of photos of models but it would be naughty to model a model.I even have the old Bachmann tender that was behind their 90s modified Hall so all is not lost. Was the emblem/coat of arms in the same place on all versions .

That's a great find as it's 5075 at NA in '48.What a pity Mr Kohler didn't see that photo a few years back.

With some "rivet counting" this looks like a good match for the tender in that photo:

A modern interpretation, of course - the tender of 6960 Raveningham Hall - but it seems consistent re the positioning of the emblem elements relative to the "rivets".

Some more shunting action. The question I have is would they be shunted with the toad attached ?

Depends why they were being shunted Rob.  If they were being crossed to the branch to head off along it or being crossed to recess the van would stay on.   If a few wagons were being shunted out for Brent the engine would simply take them and leave the rest of the train on the Main - unless that would have got in the way of other trains.

A past boss of mine, probably now long dead & buried, held the view that it was always better and quicker to shunt with a short raft of wagons and I was inclined to agree but several of our Shunters seemed to think it easier to shunt out of 70 than pick them up in two or three hits  (but then they might just have been spinning things out ;) ).

Hi Robin, thanks for some more nice Shunting pics, I'm off to the SVR on Sunday for a whole day of Train Rides, Photography and Smell, (that's the smell of coal, smoke, steam and grease not me). I just hope its a better day than I had a couple of years back when the rain didn't stop all day, but I still got some nice pics.
