I like 'Duck': I wonder why?

That Grange is a superb colour. What was wrong with it Rob?

Quack.

Yes I'd noticed that too.Perhaps the cleaners at Hornby shed gave it a clean with an oily rag whilst it was there.Seriously I'd written her off as the crosshead was well mangled but a chance chat with 46444 of this parish encouraged me to send her for repair.Good as new now and foc too.Top marks Hornby. The colour might be the weathering it has.

Apologies if it has already been covered elsewhere, but how many years has "A Nod to Brent" been in the making?

Now you're asking but its over 8 years I think. When I got the use of a suitable home for the size I needed. The kids old playroom.Hence you may see stars painted on the walls in some photos as opposed to seeing stars on the layout. ;)

Just going back to the red brick underbridge comments from earlier in the thread (been away for a couple of days on a Captain's Visit to GWR and MR country...), and one possible justification for a brick bridge in this part of South Devon could be this - when the line was originally built, it was as a broad gauge single line. As such, the underbridges (along with most other structures) would have been built in the local stone.

When it was doubled (standard gauge), the 'extension' to the existing underbridges could have been done in brick....? Just a thought...

The underbridge at the West end of Dockyard Halt was single track and built on local stone but when doubled it was done on brick.

One of the advantages of getting my Grange back from overhaul is its now available for piloting duties. ;) A busy scene as 6814 pilots Castle class 5011 'Tintagel Castle' on a Paddington to Penzance express.Whilst on the branch 45xx class 4547 arrives with a 'mixed' from Kingsbridge. More to come....

The photo of the Express looks good but has it had a malfunction with the couplings Rob something looks amiss under the bridge ?

Just noticed SM Mike will be bending you ears no lamps on the Grange or have they fallen off.

No its fine and the Grange will get its lamps at the weekend.I took them off for safe keeping before I sent it back to Hornby.Enjoy your shopping trip.

More of 4547...

Hi Rob,

Now that IS nice - not that the multitude of other photographs aren't (!) - but there is something about those mixed trains that really looks the part. Is that a Parkside BLOATER behind the loco?

Keep the pictures coming!

All the best,

Castle

I blame the photographer Peter Gray as thats been lifted direct from one of his photos.Albeit from June '61 !

As for the bloater.Yes and no as I've rebranded it to a parcels van as some were converted after the decline in fish traffic. Not 100% correct but its good enough for my needs.

Hi Rob,

Very nice it is too - its a bit different to the standard model and that makes it interesting which is always good in my book.

And, well, what's a decade or three between fellow GWR geeks?!

All the best,

Castle

If you have the Russells coach book appendix, figure 606 shews a bloater given a new lease of life as a parcel van with Old Oak branding number 2694.The doors were made of iron.My model has plastic ones [!] the same bloater type.

More of 6814 and 5011 in unison as they speed to the west.....

Still no sign of the Finching sisters. I hope they're ok ,its been a while since Mallard mentioned them in dispatches. ;)

Ah sorry. I was trying not to upset anyone by letting you know that they have moved after many happy years in lovely Brent. One of them fell in love with the Driver of that LNER Pacific and followed him back to his part of the world. Her sister wanted to support her (and quite fancied the RAF chappy) and so they left their rented cottage and have rented a small country house on the outskirts of a small town north of London; Peterborough. It overlooks an engine shed on the ECML; it is called New England and is where the Driver is based (although he wants to transfer to Grantham where there are more opportunities for overtime on northbound turns). It was an amazing coincidence that the RAF chap (Gilbert) is based at Cranwell so all has worked out splendidly. A move a little further north to near Grantham is probably on the cards as Peterborough has been designated as a 'London over-spill' town and will probably become very overcrowded with rough sorts from the south :nono:

I hope you will all join me in wishing them all the very best for the future.

Sincerely,

Drake.

Thats unbelievable as I swear I saw them on the platform just the other day.I always thought Minnie would end up with the ganger Arthur Swidger.I just can't believe she had her head turned by a driver that uses the wrong side of the footplate. They've made a mistake there....

You can tell Kingsbridge fair week is approaching as the yard starts to get busy.4547 is seen shunting a beetle cattle wagon and two horseboxes.

This is the Parkside kit that I'm going to change the livery on to the shirtbutton as its too early period as it is now. There's a good article on building this kit here http://www.gwr.org.uk/probeetle.html

If Spams wants to build one in 7mm he need not look any further than this beauty. http://www.raymondwalley.com/carriages/gwr/beetle.html

Chatting with Dave Franks on this thread here http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/68948-new-4mm-bufferstops-new/

and he tells me there are plans for a new GWR buffer stop.A bit of patience and hopefully soon  it can replace this horrible offering I have at the moment.

Horrible? Sounds about right to me. Bufferstops were about the most abused and under-maintained item in a yard, so tatty ones look good. It's great that new models are coming onto the market, but a degree of decripitude needs to be added.

I agree but sometimes that can look like bad modelling.I was at the SVR recently when a Manor smashed into the brand new buffer stop at Kidderminster. The loco was ok thankfully but not the stop.

More of 6814/5011 as they round the curve. The observant viewers may notice a better Ratio signal that's temporaly replaced the decrepit earlier version.Come on Dapol where's your brackets..

Rob,

I'm thinking of asking Andy York to alter the software of RMWeb to automatically post a Like for me whenever you post a picture on this thread - it would save my poor finger!

Lovely photos as always,

Regards,

Dave

I do think that the 'browns' look good with the 'shirtbutton';

better than the coaches, and much better than the locos!

Cheers, Jeff

Warley = Planet geek!

I have spoken to the 'sisters' (just last evening) and they are quite happy at the moment. With Wimbledon on the wireless and sunny weather they are settling in nicely.

They are looking forward to some test cricket as well.

Oh, they did mention that they miss brown vans and 'copper caps', but have told me of a new spate of swooning that has struck them when one of the whale like streamlined Class A4 Pacifics appears with it's very distinctive whistle blowing. They just love the blue ones. :maninlove:

Quick.

Do they wear blue ones?

Right then here something to make those Finching sisters miss home, blue ones or not.Apologies to the diehard GWR followers but I've moved the timeframe forward 10 years to 1957 for these shots.

Here we see King class 6015 'King Richard 111' on the down 730 Paddington to Penzance service on a glorious summers morning in the South Hams...

More to come sisters..... ;)

When you have a King ,you can stick those streaks where the sun don't shine.
