Crisis Rail
I've been playing trains on Loftus again...though 'Shed'-haters better look away now! I'd got out the camera equipment to take some wagon pics for an upcoming article, but thought why not have a good play! Here we can see a couple of my 66s top and tailing fellow Worthing MRC gangmember Chris Sweeney's new blue and white toy...more details to follow from Chris! EWS's 66076 then passed through with the Transfesa Ford 'Blue Train' bound for the Channel Tunnel... ...while 66042 Lafarge Buddon Wood slowly made its way through on a ballast train Followers of my Workbench thread will recognise a few of the creations, I'm slowly building up a prototypical EWS ballast train from the early-2000s period, tackling the various MTA, MFA, MKA and MHA variants one by one. 66076 has somehow arrived back from Kent and now powering the second engineering train, a motley collection of OBA, OCA and ZCA wagons, and including the now-world-famous* mesh sided OBA wagon from last month's Rail Express magazine! *only slightly, a tiny bit, sort of Here's the wagons I'd actually meant to photograph in the first place, the OCA and SEA, its funny how things snowball and before you know it you're just playing trains! Anyway that's all for now, Chris will be along with some much more interesting pics in due course! Wow.... Ian
jonas
The finish on that last SPA is especially nice. I love the subtlety of the rust streaks!
Harry Lime
Something else that you might see running on Loftus Road in the near future - if you look carefully at James' post (226) at the top image, you can see one of Mark Sapsford's (makeyourmarkmodels.co.uk) 12T cranes in Balfour Beatty livery. The first shot taken the other day shows the crane in its nearly finished state (taken in my shed). James then took a couple of other shots on Loftus Road (images are courtesy of Mr Makin and used with his permission). Now that I have finished this one, I am sorely tempted to do another one...
RMweb Premium James Makin Posted September 13, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 13, 2015 (edited) Super exciting news, we've been given the opportunity to take Loftus Road for another outing at our club show in Worthing this September! Scratchbuilt Electrostar & Connex VEP by James Makin on Worthing MRC - Loftus Road by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Over the weekend of 26/27th September 2015, the Worthing MRC hosts an exhibition at Durrington High School, BN13 1LA. More details about the show can be found in the RMWeb Exhibition Calendar, or on our thread here. We try to bring together a good mix of layouts, including a good dose of more modern exhibits too. There's a decent selection of traders as well, from scenics, to electronics and DCC, second hand and new RTR, and for the first time, Kernow Model Rail Centre are making the trip over to our show! We've made a huge stack of changes since to Loftus Road since the last outings at Stafford and Salisbury so please do pop down to see us! It'll be placed right alongside my 'Wells Green TMD' for a big D&E bonanza - hope to see you there! RMweb Premium James Makin Posted September 24, 2015 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted September 24, 2015 Our new toy enters service on Loftus Road! The Bachmann S Stock has arrived and we're chipping it up ready to run at our Club show this weekend, it's been a very nice surprise from Bachmann this year! I made an order from the LTM soon after hearing the news but decided to flog it to Loftus gangmember Chris Sweeney who now owns this beauty! Finally we've got something to occupy the District Line bay platform, and by a strange miracle the platform is exactly the right length for a 4-car set! Please do come down and see Loftus Road at our show in Worthing this weekend - more details at www.worthingmrc.co.uk - hope to see you there!
Adamphillip
what happened to the 3rd and 4th rails?
Harry Lime
what happened to the 3rd and 4th rails? There may well be a PW possession to replace these over the coming weekend... Actually, we had to step in for another layout at the last minute at our own show this weekend, which meant that we did not have the time to completely replace all the third and fourth rail. By the time you see us in February, that will (fingers crossed) be done.

RMweb Premium James Makin Posted February 18, 2016 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2016 Hi guys, It's been a while since the last update but we've not been sitting around (too much!) Our USP is that we're a London layout so it seemed rude not to stick in a cheeky block of scratchbuilt classic posh town houses! Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr These occupy the left hand of Loftus Road, adjacent to the petrol station from last year. They're far from finished, but at a stage where I'm only mildly embarrassed to take them to our Rail Express show in Telford this weekend! Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC6 by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr The new scenic extension boards gave us plenty of room to model some 'real West London' and me being foolish, decided I'd jump in two-feet-first - I wouldn't make do with an easy approximation or a 'flavour of a prototype' - this is a copy of the real Sinclair Gardens next to Kensington Olympia! Sinclair Gardens, London W14 by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr For comparison, here's the real thing seen from the all-seeing eye of Google Streetview. Sinclair Gardens, London W14 by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Sinclair Gardens, London W14 by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr But how did we get here? Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr About a year ago, and after a drunken night at the work's belated Christmas in February (thats how we do things) I sketched out some templates for the frontages, and over the coming weeks, gradually added to the buildings, bit by bit. Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Lana Del Rey is great for period houses. But you can see how the music's changed over the past year of building... Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr More and more styrene strips were added until I was happy with the frontages, then work shifted to the rear, a slightly more simplified version of the tall town houses. Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr After a bit of work with mounting card, lots of Bostik and white spray paint - we have the basic shell coming together! Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Having spent much time observing the prototype pictures, nearly all of the houses have varied roof extensions, patios and garden areas up the top of the 5-storey premises. Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr I made some decking using images pinched from online and printed out on photo paper! I tried to make each roof garden area as different as possible, and so much fun awaits with bespoke detailing - BBQs, patio tables, chairs, planters, sunbathers etc! Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Alongside the houses, I had to tackle the road as well, and represented the road layout around the real Sinclair Gardens with mini roundabouts and lots of resident parking! Loftus Road by Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Traffic calming measures had to be introduced to tame the outrageous Loftus drivers - pieces of plasticard gradually filed to a curvy shape and given a careful paint job - Loftus Road by Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Once the house block was painted up and installed, I then had to tackle the basement areas, and add the iconic railings and checkerboard tiling. Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC6 by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr I knocked up the opposite side of the road as well: Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Thankfully the rear of the property has a much simpler appearance, however I still had to handpaint all the individual bricks, this was a bit boring! Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Back down the other end of Loftus Road, I've tarted up our old plain grey road - we now have classic bus lanes and pedestrian crossings, cycle lanes and more - a copy of the real Kensington High Street (have a compare on Google Streetview!) - and my favourite 'Low Emission' signs, how London is that, oh dear! Loftus High Street - Loftus Road Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr I knocked up the bus lane from a cheeky bit of paint and masking tape - Loftus Road Bus Lane by James Makin by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr The little cycles were handpainted freehand, just going really slowly with the 00000 brushes. Loftus High Street - Loftus Road Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Pete Hollman then produced a fantastic model of an Argos! This fits really nicely against the back scene and looks a stunner I reckon! Argos by Pete Hollman for Loftus Road Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr It's based on our local Argos in Worthing, of all places! It's almost worth coming down our way to see how close a copy Pete's managed to do!! Argos by Pete Hollman for Loftus Road Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr So it's taken an absolute age to add these new buildings, and I know my houses have an extraordinary amount of detailing that is still to come in order to truly match those Google Streetview pics above - the aim is to be able to take a photo and not notice the difference, but who knows how long that will take haha! Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr Loftus Road houses by James Makin for Worthing MRC by jamesmakin2002, on Flickr As mentioned, we're heading up to the brand new Rail Express show in Telford this weekend, so please do say hello! We won't bite, unless I hear questions of "is that Skaledale?" !!!

rob D2
Very nice houses. You'll have to model one that's collapsed due to some Quatari trying to make a mega basement !
