Looks great Jim and a daredevil cutting up those buildings !!!  :jester:

I think that white end of the corner building needs a little something though? Maybe some peeling posters ? or a mural?

yeah, was thinking the same yesterday, just the addition of drainpipes and a touch of light weathering should make a difference to start with but a poster/advertising hoarding would look good too, ive got a fence to add round the tarmac behind the shop too.

i think it will be a while before i go really far into detail in the town, i fancy adding an interior to the flat above the metromart as you can see into it nicely, similarly the burger joint

housekeeping afternoon

my dad reads this thread and everytime i put pics up he says "when are you going to sort out that floor, it looks a mess"

so this afternoon, armed with 2 wheeliebins, one for recyclables and the other for junk i made a start on it, almost finished, just one box to sort out

and yes it was a mess once i pushed everything to the doorway

5A5DBE7B-59B8-4582-A406-54F5CAA10F73.jpg

but an hour later and its looking a lot better

0C85C996-1112-468D-BFD0-B4CD4F66B1AE.jpg

ive put down some rolson interlocking mats that i bought months ago (but havent been able to put down because of the junk), i noticed after working for a number of hours at a time in the shed over the last week or so that i have had aching feet so im hoping the cushioning action of the mats will help a bit, i'll get myself another set to come closer to the door

also if anyone in the crewe area wants a bag of Bachmann scenic risers, polystyrene sheets, and a piece of space board then get in touch and if you can come and collect them they are yours

a quick 1/2 hour earlier, hopefully back in there in a bit

first job, carried the card underlay along the front of the station

7BF180DD-B380-4E21-8042-26E08752A0D3.jpg

you can see where the road will run along the edge with a car park/turning area alongside, just used some scraps of tarmac here, as i get futher along eith the layout i will be adding a thin strip of wood on the outer edge of the layout but i want to leave it til a later date so i can get in and add lights etc to the station

E5077972-8553-4914-8945-83319140310A.jpg

and with the pavement card placed down roughly

E6B5A85F-3409-40D9-8ADF-BCA193CF5CE8.jpg

8E0BD1DD-1F93-4181-812C-6758F04C6400.jpg

junction set up, again just using precut bits, i will be printing off the proper junction markings when it comes time to stick it properly

that was going to be it but i managed to get another hour in there to sort out a few other bits and bobs

first up, got another pack of rolson mats so now i have them covering right up to the doorway. had to adapt the end piece slightly though

98B9BB84-2E48-4671-BC0A-A1900D81F0B1.jpg

as i've moved the station entrance i've had to make a new one piece retaining wall

205691F2-63CB-4160-8EBD-77C4EA0881AB.jpg

added the offcut pieces of stone card to clad the rear of the walls, just need to make some more copings

CBB1E166-7F7E-4769-9069-1933B3B2086B.jpg

then using a set of cutting compass' i made the pavement base "proper" for the low level entrance

006F1691-362C-4174-B7B9-D123A646B902.jpg

just using  a scrap again.....

78996B0D-D40C-4125-A5BF-CF3942A1C3BC.jpg

.....you can see how the pavement will look

AF941F97-3EAB-4068-8052-DA5C09102DF4.jpg

really starting to come together now

FD1A9520-DEE2-4B39-8FED-FB78D1EBE44D.jpg

i think i'm going to make some more copings in a minute so i can get them out of the way, if i at least get them fitted on the bridgei  get the roadway glued down on there

Didn't get as much done as i had hoped but still got a bit done anyway

Clad the pavement

F9BF2BAF-B5D4-4AF1-9C65-7FD118DF82D8.jpg

this time i have used herringbone buff paving

A1D5F58F-AE2C-4FDF-8F8E-A5A3B299A2E6.jpg

With the road in place

0A7068CE-7A41-4FB0-A194-89A8FB68233F.jpg

Just need to print off some more tarmac sheets but the ink is running low so i will have to wait

0B0FEC08-E9EB-41F2-BBC5-16EF620129A4.jpg

And i finally glued the road down on the bridge

And back to it for a few hours

Card a bit futher along the front

4F3B7EB3-CD33-4FA5-B1DB-DB0DB6EB3DF5.jpg

Glued the road and car park area down

5C21A3B5-80EC-443A-BBDE-B0D79A985F54.jpg

A3BB4884-C6C8-408F-8F78-1F6027569D6E.jpg

Then over to the drive through, herringbone paving around the building itself

B2936557-FC81-47D8-B2FF-0B6FD8293401.jpg

Placed down with the pavement bases around the edge

8070EF67-B418-42EB-8D45-78C081FE7C61.jpg

Then with the paving card added, still need to add the copings to the edge

32994EED-F60A-4517-8CDA-2D49A106C9AB.jpg

I also paved the pavement between the station and drive through with the herringbone wrap

25516537-E502-4388-B58F-4E3B9F454A98.jpg

But it just didnt do anything for me visually so i swapped it for traditional paving

45CBA099-6F7B-4715-BEE1-D62EFC43B87C_1.j

I also added the pavement to the bridge, again still need to add the edging (and wall copings)

picked up some 2nd hand Hornby station canopies last week after being inspired by the article in model rail about how to improve them.

i was hoping to fit them over the tracks but they dont quite fit, the legs were too close to the platform edges, so i moved them over the road and bay platform instead which i think looks, gives me a covered drop off area, i will look out for another canopy to make it longer

just placed on the layout loosley for now

6F6F15D7-847B-43CA-873A-A2FCEF91F4F5.jpg

i think once i fit them properly and detail them up it will look pretty good

my justification is a bay platform was removed but the canopy was been retained for the remaining platform, the area then became a drop off area

Like the bus station at Hull...

Will look quite good, just remember that the supports on the road side would have originally been on the removed platform.

Did the other platforms have a roof originally as well? Wartime bombing damage maybe? ;)

Would it fit if you moved the bay platform to the other side of the bay track?

the more i thought about this comment the more i felt i should give it a go

so, simply moving the platform to the other side gave me this

9BAC23C5-4E5C-4150-8765-F219F9D6A44E.jpg

B40EEF79-71B1-4177-8781-AA139B0C411A.jpg

meaning the canopies fit over the tracks

48C9DD66-68EA-494C-BEA7-BC75B8AE79DA.jpg

just loosely placed but loking quite good

ACB9DB71-26D3-4C1E-A5FA-1CAA8FBB741D.jpg

so from there i cut the legs down on them (the lugs and 2cm off)

64B85620-D4C7-4385-B320-33DD0DB26447.jpg

i then removed the low relief building and put a retaining wall in its place, the canopies are balancing on glued on coffee stirrers glued to the wall at this point (one is also masked up ready to paint the framework)

1096E9D7-21A1-4C1E-A2DC-B900979FF9C4.jpg

CA60590F-4E79-4EA9-83B3-423D9EDF53B8.jpg

my only concern was how close the uprights are to the edge of the platform, they are ok at the bridge end but as the platform isnt quite parallel with the shed wall they move closer to the track as the canopy moves along

CA60590F-4E79-4EA9-83B3-423D9EDF53B8.jpg

688BC821-0352-4B00-8965-E9B40E9B7C74.jpg

A37A655B-2533-4095-B370-83D221492808.jpg

anyway i cured the problem by simply sticking a "craft lolly stick" to the inside of the side girder and in turn the upright to that, its not noticable from normal viewing angles and helps keep the uprights a decent distance from the platfrom edge

06533B5B-0260-4935-AE14-57E156833B81.jpg

moving them around again i had a look at the bay platform side and how to make the canopy look effective over that side, this is how it looked

50B0E1A7-E82C-439E-8E30-9315F231A5C4.jpg

until i moved the bay platform track 1cm to the left meaning the platform could also move over meaning the canopy would be on the edge of the platform, out came the trusty foamboard and i made a high retaining wall for the canopy to "bolt onto" as it were, its the same length as the wall i added on the far side

F9108AE6-BB63-4D1E-AE9C-E152A7A0F94B.jpg

a low wall at the other end of the platform

B8D2C8C9-5508-4086-A931-C76F8733916D.jpg

clad in stone card and window holes cut in

903059F6-C9E2-4C7E-BEE8-CF05208C6231.jpg

obviously got to add lintles, arches etc to them

BC1AD71D-E18D-418B-88E7-135244E88258.jpg

similarly copings to add to the wall

FDB61AB6-562E-4AE8-BD4E-54F4F19831D3.jpg

i've got 2 more 2nd hand canopies coming this week so just need one more to cover the whole area, in fact i only need the canopy part as i have enough spare legs and sides

28DCA644-7FD6-4606-AB99-705897410A32.jpg

and with a coping stone strip loosley added

747BF4E4-8552-4D25-8A2E-9B20B7EC7C6A.jpg

ive also added copings to the bridge

18996579-1B87-41C4-96AF-55F34CB88647.jpg

i will have to have a look at redoing the pedestrian access to the station from the bottom level again as the glass box doesnt look right now there is a big wall

a final overview of the station, i'm wondering whether to put a holding siding between the mainline and bay now?

thanks, im hoping to get a couple of hours in there tomorrow before work

i inadvertantly bought 2 more canopies off ebay last week as well as the one in needed without legs so i now have 8 of them so i'm going to have a play about and decide whether to have the 2 extra along the back road or over the bay

Layouts looking absolutely superb now mate. Really has the feel of an inner city station now. Great work with those Hornby canopies, really makes the station look impressive.

Very nice indeed.

Cheers

Marcus

its certainly getting there now, cant wait to see how it looks with 8 canopies all painted up, the only downside is having to mask them all off to paint, going to be time consuming
