RMweb Premium John Isherwood Posted September 27, 2018 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 27, 2018 Having just read this fascinating thread from start to finish, thought I'd post this. Wonder how much it went for? https://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/great-central/catalogue-id-great-10001/lot-31f9a10e-ec17-4c16-adee-a60900e3b004 It was dug up in a pub garden, I believe. North Eastern
I've come across this website which has 3D printed bodies of the NER & LNER Tyneside electric units - http://www.rue-d-etropal.com/3D-printing/passenger-stock-lner/3d_printed_tyneside-railcars.htm

And equally interesting, four years after the war ended, to see the driver's side window still with the anti-blast plating in place. It would suggest that it was only ever operated at the same end of the train, coupled with a normal electric unit, rather than on its own.
RMweb Gold D9020 Nimbus Posted July 28, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted July 28, 2021 Are you sure it is anti-blast plating? I've read in the past that the driver's window was obstructed so he would have to stand…

It took a bit of persuasion to get going but given that it had never run before and the limitations of Duncans' test track I was happy with it. I'll stick it on the rolling road for a couple of hours at some point. It ran well enough that, before I left, I bought the turnouts and track that I need for the Newcastle Quayside layout I've been planning
Arpster
Sounds like you might be needing to borrow Duncan's J72 as well (or my dad's J71!). 1

I will as the ES1 only went as far as the yard and not out on to the Quayside itself. An 03 would also be useful depending on what year I decide to base the layout on. Still debating what colour to paint it - the green loves very nice but I'm a bit worried about the lining so I might bottle it and go for the black scheme...
Amaziii
Hello everyone! I am currently in the process of researching the N.E.R. Tyneside clerestory electrics so that I may build a rake of them (either 3D printed or brass etched), but I am having some great difficulties locating any reference material. Because I am in the States, it's difficult for me to schedule visits to archives, so that limits my scope of research. The internet does not have many photos or drawings of them, and a lot of the pictures and links posted here no longer work. If anyone has references they are able to share (i.e. diagrams, component drawings, photos, even videos if possible!), please feel free to add them to the thread. Cheers, Julien.
Trestrol
See if you can get a copy of "North Eastern electrics: The History of the Tyneside electric passenger services 1904-1967 by Ken Hoole by Oakwood Press. It will be out of print but if you can obtain a copy it's a good start. Don't pay the silly Amazon price £80!?!? There are book sellers with it at sensible prices. Amaziii
Thank you very much! While I am waiting for the books to arrive, I checked in with the N.E.R.S., and Mr. Colin Knapp said "[he knows] we have very little if anything useful [on the clerestory electrics]." The N.R.M. also likely does not have much, as I could only find a list of their components from the N.E.R. but not contents within that. Are there any other archives that could have diagrams of them? I know that a copy of The Engineer has one, but that's all I have heard. Cheers, Julien.

The booklet is available from the North Eastern Railway Association (NERA) https://ner.org.uk/product/ner-electric-traction-on-tyneside-1904/ I haven’t seen the contents personally…..so not sure how relevant to your needs but it could be of interest. NERA also have carriage diagrams books. There are 5 volumes and they run in date sequence. The “North Eastern Railway Passenger Train Vehicles” Diagram book 2 has diagrams of the 1904 clerestory electric stock. These diagrams are basic, but do have the main dimensions and show the layout of the interiors as well as the exterior. If you are a member you can also search the photo and magazine archive. I made a quick search on the photos (“Tyneside electric “). This turned up 3 or 4 photos of the clerestory stock. A bit more effort would probably find a few more photos. There maybe be something in the magazine archive….but that takes a bit of searching. 1
Amaziii
Thank you so much for your help, Jon! I've taken a look at the 5 diagram books on the website, and they have absolutely no description of their contents! If anyone here knows which of the books, other than Volume 2, have the "Elliptical" stock, then that would be much appreciated! It would save me a bit of money instead of buying all of them to check for a few things. Also, does the "NER Passenger Train Rolling Stock as at December 31st 1906 (numerical listing)" actually have any diagrams? I'm not sure what the contents of that is either. Cheers, Julien.
