Talltim
I've seen it done in the uk, but not commercially, and it works much better with couplings that can operate hands free in the same way as the real ones (yes I know kadee tails arent realistic, but they are a whole lot better than the shunter's pole of god needed to couple and uncouple three links)
RMweb Gold griffgriff Posted February 23, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 23, 2013 I think Jim Smith Wright did a piece in the MRJ sometime ago? Â It used a black rubber/elastic thread with a 'micro' magnet superglued to the end... very effective it was too but a little too 'hair shirt' for me
F-UnitMad
<Skeptic Mode> Looks to me like it wouldn't work over kadee track magnets? So the "hand of god"/bbq stick isn't entirely removed from the operation. There seems to be a bit of 'pull' as the cars seperate; I just wonder how this might affect spotting a single car... <Skeptic Mode>/Off  But overall I can see the atraction of this, especially in O Scale.... trisonic
Presumably you can either have Kadee coupling/uncoupling with magnets or this system but not both.  It does look quite nice but I'd like to "see" some real life experiences of it!  Best, Pete. Red Bull
Shortly to be "also in N scale" But will anyone be able to see them??? Â I like the idea of using them for larger scales though, as F-UnitMad says. it would be better with larger scales and heavier freight cars so they don't get pulled by the pipe. Â Could be an opportunity for having cars disabled when they get the pipes ripped off instead of just parting, adding a bit of realism and a purpose for your layout to have a RIP track while you hunt for the missing pipe and a tube of supeglue.
