Popular Post rs4
Spurred on by my BAA / BZA "success" here are some of my past projects. Don't claim to be a "pro" in any respect, fun to learn and I think the results are reasonable. Here you go: TEA: BDA with gas pipe load - or approximation of one Cargowaggggon flat BDA: Lots of BDAs ! Regards Nick
RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted January 31, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 31, 2013 Great job! Nice to see someone`s having fun. Is that a jar of weathered black or rust? and all washed down with a brew
rs4
Gotta be careful not to drink the paint instead of the beer.... Coooo - imagine thinners.... The Saturday "treat" does currently appear to be airbrushing in the garden then beer afterwards... Hic...

RMweb Premium Sasquatch Posted February 1, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 1, 2013 Weathering has a sort of pain barrier that needs to be broken before reults like this are posible. This thread sure is helping with my pain barrier where all that plasticy looking Hornby coaching stock is concerned. This is inspirational work and on such a marathon task too!

sdw7300
All those wagons look cracking. Weathering is something I'm yet to turn my hand to. Could you give a few details on how you have weathered your wagons? Many thanks Sam
bridgiesimon
I saw the first picture of the clay wagons and though, oh! Say the other piccies and realised the colour was obviously just the lighting!! Your weathering looks most excellent!!!! Simon
billyb_imp
This is really good weathering, I want to have a go myself but just looking around on eBay for things to practice on at the moment,I will keep an eye on this thread for inspiration
rs4
Thanks for all the comments. I'll detail what I do (more luck than judgement) over the weekend. Planning a shed load of work - will post some pictures. In the meantime 2 further for you: MFA with brake disc inserts and flashing tail lamp (underslung pcb & battery) MTA no inserts !

rs4
Bit of a mega session today...... First removed wheels (most of which I'd painted already and where required I'd added brake discs). Duly bagged and labelled... Then I masked off the wagons requiring rust.... Some of the older MEAs (for example) have a silly moulding line across the buffers - filed off: Next a coat of Railmatch dark rust. Must be more overspray in the cardboard than the wagons.... Where I've not masked properly / oversprayed a quick rub around with a cotton bud soaked in thinner. Done a good few today, MRAs, various 2 axles etc. Next step is to distress the internals with wire wool or emery - that will be tomorrow once the paint has hardened. This is the aftermath on the table.... I've airbrushed the underframes with Railmatch frame dirt. Tomorrow I'll do some more... rs4
It's the modelling bug.... Takes me mind off work etc ! Itching to get on but tiring. MRAs looking ok prior to getting distressed and I will cut the loads tomorrow / cover in ballast: Luckily no thinner headache tonight - very very wise precaution is to use a filter / respirator - even working outside the close proximity can lead to some chronic headaches... Poindexter
Nice work on a grand scale! How's the layout doing? I seem to remember it being upstairs in a factory or industrial park unit? Guy Edited February 2, 2013 by Poindexter
rs4
Hi Guy I guess I decided (due to time / physical constraints) that what I could do to progress things was work at home on stuff. Hence the weathering etc. Shiny wagons don't seem right to me, and they tend to stay in their boxes as a result ! So layout hasn't progressed much. Have managed to improve electrics etc and when that's done I can ballast etc. I'll post up some pics soon. Final job tonight was loads and loads of loads : Tomorrows task amongst others is to cover these in ballast. Regards Nick
rs4
Today's update ! Loads cut & shaped. It's just foam packaging cut to size. This time I've coated each block with a good coat of PVA and then dumped the block in a container of ballast. They do grow a bit as the sides get wider due to the ballast being stuck on. Easily trimmed away. Before they actually get fitted I need to distress the internals of each wagon. Photos: 2 axle wagon loads ballasted: The kitty litter ready to "dunk" the pva'd loads: The MRA loads - gas mark 6 / regulo 5! (Joke) So, basic stuff done - will work on this lot over the coming week (weeks?) Regards and happy modelling Nick

rs4
Thanks for the comments The RHTT was a labour of love to make (several disasters along the way) but I'm pleased with it. After all that work weathering it took some "bottle". Fairly basic approach but again I think it worked. Added bonus was that it hid some of the issues I'd had along the way (cantrail stripes ...arghhhhh) As for the loads, you learn as you go don't you? I spend many hours churning over stuff in my mind - usually when I'm either running or trying to get to sleep at night ! Previously with the loads I'd sprinkled the ballast on - but this time I employed the cooks technique of rolling them in the kitty litter. Good intentions to "get cracking" after work this week......but I do find it a struggle to get out of the soft chair once I've sat down !
