Crisis Rail
Haha. I don't believe that for a second! Just found an old picture of my pug from the boy racer days of the late 90s! 20180705_183903.jpg Hmm looking out the window I haven't moved on much after 20 years! 20180607_202739.jpg Nice. Odd though Cav - I thought you'd have a Van for BoT and all it's assorted paraphernalia to cart around
RBE
A van! What! Don't have much street cred in one of those! Haha
Grimleygrid
Seem to have nailed a good method there Alex - Concrete always difficult to replicate as a tint Grey too Grey Suede is about right - I'll take that on board. XR2 - had 2 of them after the 205 GTi (not at the same time) Rosso "B" Reg and a NImbus Grey "D" with Pepperpots don't see many about either - what was yours? Ian I always liked the Mk1 XR2, especially with the Pepper pot wheels. I had a red Mk2, without Pepper pot wheels and then the Mk3, 1.8 version. That was a car! I had a gunmetal grey Mk3 XR2i if that counts! Great fun that one. Was like a go kart. I always liked the XR3, especially the Mk3!

Thanks Ian, I am really pleased with the results so far, I have a bit of a dilemma, do I add weathered black washes or not? I am unsure. I like the way it looks, especially as this is what I am trying to recreate: Toton Depot. by Valiantoz, on Flickr Toton Depot. by Valiantoz, on Flickr But then there would be oily/black stains etc. 56025 + 009 + 60046 Toton 31-07-93 by Wilbert B, on Flickr Not sure.... Grimleygrid
A slight delay to progress, last week I went to work on the last three larger floor pieces and noticed that one of them didn’t look quite right. I had not realised at the time but one of them was not the correct length…oops! Slightly annoying but not the end of the world. So I have had the three pieces redone so that they are all from the same material. These three pieces are for the area around the lathe pit and to the east of road 1. I had two sets cut just in case of any issues which then allowed a spare. Grimleygrid
Today I have weathered the last three main pieces of the depot floor: Untitled by AP474, on Flickr Untitled by AP474, on Flickr I am pretty pleased with how it is looking so far, a few washes of weathered black are definitely required. Then I will see after that. Earlier I took the opportunity to offer some of the longer pieces up to the board to see how they look in position. Grimleygrid
Just a quick update, yesterday evening I offered up the pieces that sit around the wheel lathe pit just to see how they looked. Grimleygrid
Having looked at the photos of the two 56s with the depot floor pieces in position I wasn’t quite sure or happy with them. I kept looking and thinking if the pieces were dirty enough, would the weathered black washes pick out the dirt? I wasn’t convinced.More time spent looking at photos of the inside of Toton at the floor, yes I know, that really is sad!!! So, last night I decided to apply a couple more washes to dirty the main pieces. Now I am happier! RBE
Yes sometimes things look really overdone when you do them in isolation then you offer them up to the layout and suddenly its nowhere near enough! Be interesting to see the redo's in place.
Grimleygrid
Yes sometimes things look really overdone when you do them in isolation then you offer them up to the layout and suddenly its nowhere near enough! Be interesting to see the redo's in place. Very true. I was pretty happy with how the floor pieces looked, not too much but just enough. However, then once in position I wasn't convinced. Then seeing photos and looking again, it just didn't look right. The lighting conditions also make a difference. I will offer them up over the weekend to see how it is looking. Grimleygrid
Second round of weathering has now been completed. Last night I got the rest of the floor pieces to the same stage. Grimleygrid
I have just put in position some of the floor pieces to see how they look after further attention during the week. They definitely look much better now, it has definitely been worthwhile. Here are a few photos, it wouldn’t be right not to include a couple of 58s! Crisis Rail
I just found this photo giving a nice view of the front of Toton shed. 20087 24.7.92 by Robert Mallett, on Flickr Then came across this one which given some ideas for vehicles to have in the Boxenby car park! 37055. 24,7,1992. Toton. by Robert Mallett, on Flickr Oh and some nice traction in the background! Had a trawl tonight for inspiration and other bits - came across this courtesy of Flickr Thats an immense amount of (decent) Traction - and is Will aware of the pointwork? Really like the forward headshunt - there's 3 66 on that. Ian Edited July 31, 2018 by Crisis Rail
RBE
Decent traction. Really Ian I'm disappointed! I'd much sooner see that with a yard full of 56s, 58, and 20s!!
