It has been a busy period with work and domestic duties meaning that I have not been able to do much modelling. At times it has been difficult to get motivated, I keep looking at layouts on here and seeing members able to play trains and it makes me wonder if this project will ever get finished. Grimleygrid Posted April 24, 2015 Author Share Posted April 24, 2015 Well despite my dwindling motivation I have managed to make some progress, not as much as hoped but a little nevertheless. The conveyor sections have had the conveyor belts painted and just need weathering now.In addition to the little something that will be added to the wheel lathe, mentioned in my last update, I have made a couple of small changes to the wheel lathe itself. Whilst fairly insignificant it does make a big difference to the appearance of the machinery. I am pretty pleased with how it is looking. Hopefully I will be in a position to show the changes on Sunday.I am planning to tone down the wheel lathe pit and add the pit lights etc. at some point over the weekend. Something else that I have been researching and working on, are the Pelloby Floor Mounted Swing Jib Cranes which sit either side of the wheel lathe pit. Grimleygrid Posted April 27, 2015 Author Share Posted April 27, 2015 Despite a very busy weekend I did manage to find some time to do a little bit of modelling.The wheel lathe pit has been toned down with Railmatch weathered black and I have also added the pit lights, however, these will not be working!I finished off painting a few bits for the wheel lathe and these are now ready to be added. Some further research into the swing jib cranes has meant a couple of tweaks to the design and I am now ready to move this forward. Hopefully I will be able to take a few photos tonight to show progress. Grimleygrid Posted May 1, 2015 Author Share Posted May 1, 2015 Mr class60lover, normally for me the better weather means that I can get modelling done in the evenings, especially painting etc. Unfortunately it has been another busy week or so with time for modelling at a premium. To be honest, whilst I am not able to do any modelling I am always researching or thinking about my project. Hopefully once I start getting the inspection pits in position permanently and the concrete floor down that will really motivate me. It just seems at the moment that there is not much progress being made…….I think a trip to DEMU at the end of the month might help with motivation! This week I have managed to do a bit of modelling and progress on the wheel lathe area has been made, albeit slowly. But I am pleased with what has been achieved and I am looking forward to seeing it all coming together over the weekend.I have made a few adjustments to some of the wheel lathe bits and bobs and been looking at the design of the swing jib crane. My thoughts now are that it might be a good idea to produce this in brass, so will probably seek the help of Grimley Senior. I am hoping that this weekend I can get the wheel lathe pit area finished allowing me to focus on the swing jib crane. Then I can move on to getting the pits ready for permanent fixing, I will then come back to weathering the wheel lathe and conveyor before the floor goes down. Regards your 26, which is in the best livery btw, the reason its at Boxenby could be for tyre turning. It made its way to Boxemby in an overnight service due to a faulty lathe or excessive workload on the Scottish lathes. I am sure a 50 made its way to Longsight in the late 80's due to a similar situation. They were apparently on their way to Leicester. That does ring a bell, I vaguely remember seeing something in either Rail Enthusiast or Motive Power Monthly around that time. The design for the metal cage has been finalised and I hope to start making them later today. The steps have been primed and given a top coat of steel grey coloured paint.The slight changes to the wheel lathe that have been made, whilst small, do make a big difference to the external appearance. I am very pleased. Whilst at times it has been slow going, it has definitely been worthwhile. I do feel that it is a fairly good representation of a wheel lathe.Once the metal cages have been produced, my plan is to leave the weathering of the wheel lathe and conveyor belt system until the floor goes down permanently. Grimley Senior is kindly working on the swing jib cranes. Next up is to touch up the rails in the inspection pits, get them wired up and then glued in position. Good Alex - looking forward to the "all up" later - ironically off into the garage for bridge road laying trunking painting and ballast drybrushing. Casleton has gone off in a different direction with the acquisition of a looooong rake of stock which is still ongoing- hellishly expensive- and what else I have in mind is hellishly hellishly expensive but that will have to wait. ....a while. To keep your class 26 interest going I've finally got round to adding a pic of 26041 that I've done in its early 90's condition based on a photo of it at Carlisle. These are now ready for spraying.I offered them up to the wheel lathe to see how they looked and noticed that once in position you cannot really see them! Looking inside the depot from the front end, there is no way that you will see them…..Good job I have spent time working on them!
