Glad they fit the bill Alex.

Mick I'll be making them available to buy from my shapeways shop soon if you want some. I'll let you know when they are up. I need to change the file so that they contain less lamps as not everyone will be wanting over 200 of them!

They certainly do Cav, thanks again.

One thing, are you sure that not everyone wants over 200 lamps?!!!

Dear Mr Grimley,

I'm sorry to report that I am experiencing problems with your layout thread and this has been on going for some time now.

Well, you see, I'm having problems deciphering whether your pictures are of the real thing, or, your model ! :scratchhead:

Your making such a good job of this that I'm having to look REALLY closely at your pics, such as the ones in your post,  just to be sure what I'm looking at.

Well done mate and keep up the good excellent work please,

Kindest Regards,

Looking really nice Alex, the atmosphere is already brilliant, but I wonder, will you reproduce the cloudy layer of goodness knows what hanging near the ceiling...me thinks it's diesel clag! :music:

Jack.

Can be done - see Jon Sandhills threads*

*Warning - involves the use of tobacco products - or incense for the more refined modeller :D

Hi Ian, yes I do plan to model them but as yet have not figured out how to! I have spent some time thinking about how best to model them but still haven't come up with a solution.

Airbus or Eurofighter?!!

We try to instil into our boys that they have to take responsibility for their actions, something that I really do believe in. However, sometimes others have to share the responsibility as well. Now I am talking about the following members; Mr Waverley West, Mr PCM, Mr JeffP, Mr Crisis Rail and Mr Mason, you have all been involved in my recent obsession with Railfreight class 26s.
I will be explaining to Mrs Grimley that it is not just my fault that one of these fine models has just arrived at Boxenby! Boy are they nice models, I love it!

I have wanted one of these for quite some time and I know that it does not fit in but I just couldn’t resist. It then got me thinking that maybe I should build a little layout for her to run on but after spending over five years working on Boxenby that would just prove a distraction and be a very silly idea.
So, I then thought about New Southwich. A class 26 on PCA cement tanks would look rather nice……..Sorted, Will won’t mind I am sure!

I will post a few photos later of my latest addition.

Joking aside, I am really pleased that I have finally bought a Heljan 26. They are lovely little locos.
As mentioned before on RMweb, I have always liked these Type 2 machines, although only ever having seen a few of them in real life, and whilst I am by no means an expert on the class it certainly looks like a 26 to me. I am very pleased!

Here she is sitting on one of Boxenby’s inspection pits:

Hi Grimley,

I have exactly the same one, very nice too. :imsohappy:
I did a modification on mine which involved chopping out the four corners of the chassis and fitting directional marker lights and switchable tail lamps.
All Heljan models run well I've found ;)

Jinty ;-)

Hi Alex,

I have already looked at these curtains for Stew. Lane and have a solution........I think, although it is untested / not proven yet. Maybe there's a better way ?

Are you familiar with A4 clear plastic document wallets that you place inside a ring binder/folder ? There are various holes down the margin on one side.

These wallets have a front and a back and you place a sheet of paper inside, between these. There is a proper join around three edges, the two sides and the bottom.

Now, I'm thinking that you could feed one of these wallets into a paper shredding machine until just before the join goes in and through the blades. Select 'reverse' to remove your newly made 'curtains' ?

Obviously, you would need to trim these to the correct size for the location and then paint  / weather them ?

Edited to add...when fixing these curtains in position, the aforementioned 'join' would be fixed at the top to the roof / beam and the loose flappy ends would be down at the floor level.

My thinking is that you would have uniformly spaced curtains without resorting to the ruler and sharp knife method.

Finally, my shredder is ancient and has one set of circular blades, this idea just wont work on the newer ones that have multiple blade patterns and make you a cuppa while you're waiting.

Hope this helps........?

Kindest Regards,

Shed.

Hi Alex,

Well well it seems we are 1 all. As you are partly to blame for me buying a class 58. lol

It's a great looking model, don't forget to paint the chassis red, though looking at the pic of the one you want to do you could almost get away with not doing it, they did get very dirty.

Cheers Peter.

Yes Alex - good machines Jock Type 2.

I have a few books on them - one or two images of them cropping up at Tinsley (Tinsley Fitter - Phil Hodgkiss) and at Man Vic then Preston being towed back to Eastfield in the early 90's by a Rf Construction Class 60 - it had been in the NW on some sort of exhibition - gala in any case that is an out of area working excuse I suppose.

They had a reputation for spontaneus combustion - hope this doesn't replicate in model form.......

BR Blue TOPS 27's hard to source at the moment.

That sounds like the Regional Railways North-West day. Lots of freight locos on Manchester-Barrow services.

The 26's were in the area for a railtour and were used on one of the services. Someone left a handbrake on one of them and nearly set fire to it.

The 60 was probably 60095 - it was used on the RRNW day and is my one and only 60 haulage.

Remember 26's were quite regular for awhile at Preston, usually on a Wednesday night, working the postal from Carlisle round the Cumbrian Coast.

Cheers,

Mick
