RMweb Premium 1E BoY Posted August 14, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 14, 2020 The removal of the last of the spans across Buckingham Road has resulted in work starting on the two now isolated spans seen here around 1530 today. The first seen here from the car park of the Park Hotel shows cutting equipment being craned into position from the Duncombe Street compound. Conditions around here yesterday were pretty damp and it was pouring down in the early hours, so they must have been working in some pretty unpleasant conditions. This leaves just two sections in the proximity of the West Coast Main Line behind Duncombe Street. During the week the two remaining sections close to the former Buckingham Road section have been prepared for removal. There is a weasely(!) notice saying that it is necessary to close parts of the former railway to allow works, but since (to my knowledge) its never been a railway, that cuts no ice with me. It has been moved within the Telephone Rentals site and is now available to lift the two remaining sections by the WCML. They appear to be removing the ballast levels built up to avoid the cranes damaging the road service. The road and pavements can be seen on the right hand side of the bottom picture. There is considerable work being done across various sites of which Bletchley Flyover is just one element, albeit a rather visible one! During the week work has continued to prepare the two isolated sections for removal. The top Two pictures show the span nearest to Buckingham Road. It would appear that considerable work is necessary to protect the road prior to the arrival of a crane to take out the segments on this section. The middle picture shows large metal plates being laid on to the road surface at the end of Duncombe Street. The third picture shows the isolated section closest to the West Coast Main Line which has been made ready for removal. Saturday night is the favoured time for these removals when they can take line posessions, so it is possible it could be removed this weekend. 6 1 4 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Some months ago there was an article in Modern Railways which gave a full list of what was being replacedcand which were staying. I did post the info on here but can't remember when. The first shows the sections north of Buckingham Road looking towards the junction where one line splits towards Denbigh Hall and the other to Fenny Stratford. The wall in front of the dual carriageway has the road into the goods yard etc. behind it. This is the proposed second entrance to the new station. The station entrance has always been on the other side of the WCML. The cement terminal is in the former L&NWR goods shed. The other intact section is the three or four sections which adjoins the span over Water Eaton Road and thence the sections out towards Newton Longville.
