Hi all,

OK...

Xmas arived early in the form of a package from the USA!

Being short on things to do today - I decided to have a look at the goodies...

Santa - via the Mrs, has provided me with a range of MRC Sound Decoders.

Not the make of decoder I wanted - but at least she got the loco types correct!

Mrs being nosey asked how all this lot fitted into a loco - so I decided to show her.

I must be either crazy or stupid....

I can fit the chip in place, smuggle the stay alive capacitor into a hidey hoe and make all the wires go into place - no problem.

With the speaker provided there is no way to get this into place.

Believe me - I tried valliently!

It's too wide for the hood

It's too deep for the hood

It won't sit on it's side and fit under the hood

Only option I can see is cutting the underside of the cab open and fitting it in the cab!

Anyone else have any experience of this?

Thanks

ps - The Mrs has been laughing her socks off at me - I said it should be a simple job - after all the decoder is designed for the model......

Sometimes I think that some manufacturers don't actually try/build their products. My favourite is my Kaslo shops F59PH shell (N scale). The instructions state that you should use an Athearn F59PHI chassis, even though it will not fit in their shell (among other things, it is too wide). The shell was obviously designed for an Atlas GP38/GP40 mechanism (which fits with only minor fettling) or possibly a LifeLike GP38-2 chassis.
