Just found the thread again where I found the tip about using static grass for branches:

http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/97576-martins-homegrown-trees-bushes-n-weeds/

He actually models recogniseable families of tree, mine are a bit more generic, I'm not aiming to do a specific species.

I've been a bit busy this week, but this evening I've managed to grab half an hour.

Over the weekend I finished off the trees for the banking behind the down platform.

So this evening, they've been planted. Here's some photos:

Here it is back in place on the layout:

I can't show you any views of it all yet, though, because I want to get some work done on the back side of the road bridge.

As you know, this was built a couple of years ago, one of the first things I built, and at the time, I didn't bother detailing the back of it.

However, now the platform is being detailed, and because I'm now taking video from trains that pass through, It would look wrong to leave it, so I'm going to finish it off.

Here's what it looks like now - a bit of a mess:

Hopefully I'll get some done tonight.

Well I got a bit sidetracked, but eventually I've done the basic additions for the back of the bridge.

I might pretty it up a bit later.

So as a start, I added a crescent of 80thou plasticard to the arch to give enough relief to clear the stonework:

post-17302-0-56968600-1438301751_thumb.jpg

and added the missing stonework to the bottom of the walls and then applied a load of filler to hide the horrendous gaps:

Using a pair of dividers, I scribed an arc from some 20thou plasticard, and then cut it into individual stones:

And then applied them to the bridge:

When done, I applied a coat of Humbrol Matt Sand:

post-17302-0-82291000-1438301911_thumb.jpg

Once that was all dry, I applied a couple of dilute washes of Humbrol Dark Green (No.30) and Humbrol Dirty Black (RC401) - this is because I've run out of Black Green (No.91) - and then a wash of just Dirty Black for the smoke blackened bits.

This is still a bit wet, so it will look different in the morning (hopefully!)

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Hi Al,

Love the layout- it's really coming together well.

Is that slaters palstikard you've used on your bridge?

Pete

Hi Pete, thanks very much.

Yes, it's Slater's 7mm Dressed Stone.

Cheers

Al.

This evening, I've put the bridge back on the layout.

Interesting to compare before and after photos:

There's an issue with the wall, that I need to fix, unfortunately I didn't see it until I'd added the photos to the thread...

Here's a couple more shots of the bridge, banking and trees:

I now need to look at the other side, which currently looks like this:

Here's a few views through the bridge from the station:

There appears to be something on the bridge... :O

Oh no, it's a bus! How did that get there? Where's ClasssixT

post-17302-0-92125300-1438374625_thumb.jpg

Yep, definitely a bus...

Right, you will never see that on the bridge again, I promise.

However, other traffic has appeared.

The station yard is quite busy:

And up on the farm, too:

These are all brand new out of the box, and they need some weathering - especially that tractor - who ever saw such a clean tractor, ever!

I like this one though:

Speaking of buses, and continuing the black-and-white theme, here's that shot of Stan Roberts' showing the bus in the car park, taken from the signal box steps:

And now, here's my version:

There are obvious compromises, but I hope you think it's a close thing.

Thanks for looking,

Al.

Thank you all for your great comments.

Today, I've been working mostly on the Up platform beyond the bridge, but first, I did a bit of weathering on the vehicles I'd bought.

The tractor, and the land rover, looked far too clean and new, so they were attacked with matt varnish, and various colours of paint to make them look more used.

The Land Rover had a coat of matt varnish, and then a spray of Humbrol Dark Earth (No.29) along the bottom, to suggest mud and dirt:

The tractor was a bright shiny green.

Not any more...

For the others, I just gave them a blast of matt varnish:
