BR 2EPB

Having trouble finding out ahic ones survived the longest into the 1970's if anyone has any ideas aor pics i woiuld be gratefull as i will then be aable to spray my spare Bachmann bodies

unsure if it eill be un powered or poewered using Replicas excellent mechanisnm

I guess time will tell!!!!!!

Put it this way: one powered unit should easily be able to haul one or two unpowered ones so no absolute need to spend extra money on the Replica chassis for that (excellent as the chassis is - I have two in use).

I can only remember Southern bodied 4 car EPBs with full yellow ends but this is in the early 1970's so I mioght have missed them. With regards to the Replica chassis it is brillant I have a shortened version under a my departmental Class 501 and it will haul 14 coaches with no effort! I also have another chassis that is going to be fitted under my M68000M which will make it far more powerfull than the prototype, but what fun!

Good luck with your project and I look forward to seeing photos of the unit

Were not at least some of the Tynesiders in green FYE on the Southern? And ISTR at least a few of the BR standards as well. I don't have a record of numbers matched to paint dates any more (such things were cast aside as unimportant when I had to make time for the female side of life ;)) but I'm sure someone a round this establishment would have. Green lasted well into the 1970s.

I've got a list of the repaint dates from blue to green, application of full yellow ends at home but I'm not there at the moment. I will try my best when I get in to take a look for you if that is ok? It may not be tonight though.

Thats not a problem but is very much appreciated as and when.

Ive only just loosley laid down the track for the layout which is totally freelance. I had originally used card glued down onto chipboard but the card became lummpy and looked like the alps ! Ive now gone down the road

of fibreboard but am unsure if wether to glue the track down in small parts taking my time or use track pins which Im trying to avoid.

MMMMMM decsions decisons

Im in no rush as ive still got to build up the undrframe for unit. still not sure if I'm gonna go powered or unpowered for it or whether to use southern pride underframe components as a short cut.

I shall await with baited breath thank you very much for you offer

DOH!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

But in my defence im on a mixture of Tramadol and Pregablin and untill two days ago 3 weeks worth of diazapam so just a little spaced out lol have a trapped ciatic(spelling?) nerve which had me bed bound for two weeks now Im on physio and felling more myself Ill hopefully be able to get back to some modelling.

Dont know if you people have seen but Kernow are selling Bachmann 4CEPS in green with and without yellow panels for £79 + p&p each ordered me a yellow end one today it says 53% saving on the RRPfor the new(?) releases which their doing for £340 for a pair seems a real bargain to me and i couldnt resesit one only now i need to find out when the last green/ye UNREFURBISHED 4CEP ran.

LOOOOL

For that last one Kernow had their prices reversed! It said something like "RRP £149 sale price £340" - I think you'll find that the two unit packs are for £149 - £150, which really is a bargain. :)

Howeveryou look at it there are some real bargains to be had on extremely good RtR EMUs at the moment. And if this is a reflection of slower sales after the second batches were released we might never see this sort of offer again.

There were bargain packs for the 2EPBs as well. Unfortunately, I already have 5 x 2EPBs and 4 x Bachmann 4CEPs plus 2 x Southern Pride 4CEPs and 1 x Southern Pride 4BEP ... I simply can't justify any more at this stage.

I only have a very limited need for SR EMU stock and probably have all I require and am likely to require. Depending on financial commitments over the holiday period I might find myself able to consider another 2EPB or another CEP (though not both) and have in mind that the future layout upon which they will run will almost certainly only have a 5-car limit in the longest platform making even a Cep+EPB combination too long. If I can possibly squeeze a scale 400' (6-car) platform onto the board I shall do so but not at the expense of realistic curve radii. I would also then have to accommodate a 6-car train off-scene somewhere. 2x2EPB remains a possibility.

The following 2-EPB units were reported as running in green with full yellow ends:- 5702/03/05/07/12/14/17/22/23/25/27/36/40/41/42/46-52/58/69

.

None of the BR built (SR style bodied) units of the 5651-5684 series were reported as running in green with full yellow ends, all apparently went from GSYP to BFYE

.

The following former Tyneside units were also reported as running in green with full yellow ends:- 5782/83/84/88/90-94

Thank you very much for the info for two reasons. 1st is I have a spare pair of Bachmann EPB bodies which I can now go ahead and repaint green but I also have several replica railways parts that I'm thinking of making into an ex Tyneside EPB so thank you very much for the info .

Just gotta think about which underframe parts to use now. most likely the Souuthern pride pack p311 2-Car / MLV U/F Modules Kit that is unless anybody knows any better !

Hi

Apologies for the delay in sorting out the promised info but I have been able to access it now so hope it is of interest. It also corresponds to Brian R's list but adds the dates that I have been given (these were collected by John Atkinson and Brian Gunner at the time by observation of the painted dates on the units themselves). Also confirm as Brian R writes that no BR built SR-style bodied 2EPB 5651-5684 received GFYE- all passing from GSYP to BFYE. The first date below is the date into GFYE, the second is into the next livery which was BFYE in all of the cases, none being withdrawn whilst still GFYE.

5702 16-10-68 - 14-4-71

5703 16-11-68 - 14-4-71

5705 12-11-68 - 6-4-71

5707 1-8-68 - 1-10-69

5712 22-9-67 - 20-11-70

5714 18-6-68 - 15-4-71

5717 8-8-68 - 6-4-71

5722 27-6-68 - 8-70

5723 11-9-67 - 12-11-70

5725 13-12-67 - 18-3-70

5727 5-6-68 - 15-12-70

5736 30-11-67 - by 3-70

5740 13-10-67 - 3-12-69

5741 12-1-68 - 12-70

5742 ?-68 - 6-7-71

5746 16-2-68 - 11-5-71

5747 13-11-67 - 25-11-70

5748 25-9-68 - 6-7-71

5749 18-3-68 - 4-12-70

5750 22-11-67 - by 2-70

5751 30-10-67 - by10-70

5752 16-10-68 - 3-6-71

5758 13-5-68 - 11-7-70

5769 22-11-67 - 3-12-70

Tyneside 2-EPB

5782 29-8-67 - 8-3-70

5783 16-2-68 - 17-8-70

5784 5-2-68 - 20-3-71

5788 10-4-68 - 24-9-70

5790 18-3-68 - 18-8-70

5791 ?-68 - 22-12-70

5792 12-1-68 - 1-6-70

5793 1-5-68 - 10-3-70

5794 10-4-68 - 8-5-70

From the above it can be seen that ex Tyneside 5782 was first into GFYE on 29/8/67 with 5723 the first standard 2EPB into GFYE on 11/9/67. Last to receive the full yellow ends was 5703 on 16/11/68. Last to lose GFYE and receive BFYE was 5742 and 5748 both on 6/7/71.

For the record the first BR 2-EPB to receive blue was 5763 on 1/7/66 with small yellow ends. First into BFYE was 5756 on 21/3/67.

BSYP disappeared by 10/70 when 5775 received full yellow ends.

Green wise last with small yellow panels was 5731 which was repainted into BFYE on 31/10/70

Hope it is of some interest!

LOVE IT MATE !

Made a start on the bodies today completely stripped of all glazing and roof!

fitted some etched brass foldup buffer beams which came from an MJT class 302 parcels emu kit which ive had since 1991! lol

The etched cab ends are availiable to buy from dart castings for £2 an etch (per cab front) so replacing the parts is easy

Im going to use MJT retracted BR coach bufffers and most like a spare Helijan 33/1 rubbing plate if that dosent fit I'll try some spare DC Kts versions

Its most likely going to be unmotered so will be fitted with Replica Railways MK1 chassis with modified Bachmann Mk1 bogies and modified Triang DMU bogie (thanks Xerces Fobe2) for that old trick

fitted withh MJT shoeeams and fuseboxes the rest will most likley be Southern Pride parts

Interiors will be modified Replica Railways MLV cabs and MK1 Suburban coach interiors cut and shut

I'll try uploading some pics as i get round to it.

Thank you for the people who came back with such usefull ifo

I have a similar project with my replaced blue EPB bodies. One unit will become a HAP in green. All are using the Replica Mark 1 chassis which fit quite nicely plus some replica seating units which need some modification but take the drudgery out of building interior units. As a temporary measure I found that some old Mainline bogies fitted perfectly (with metal wheel sets added) but eventually they will be replaced with modified Bachmann bogies.

Likewise I will be using MJT buffers and some spare buffing plates plus the MJT shoebeams (not needed with the DEMU bogies I was doing at the time).

You'll probably beat me to the finished product, Trailrage. Good luck with the project anyway. :)

Bit off topic but been thinking of converting my B/G 4 CEP into a phase 2 unit with commonwealth bogies. Remember seeing a couple different ways of doing it in a Modelrail article a year or so back wondrered if anyone on hear has done it yet?

Thought about doing a 2HAP but didnt want to cock up a lovely body even if it was free! Besides I'm tooooooo lazy lol.

Anyhoooo I can see Bachmann doing a model of these units using the DTCL from the 205 (hopefully).

I've noticed from photos Ive been going through on flickr it seems that the 2 EPB unts were fitted with different shoebeams some the same as the type MJT make (not sure what the design is actuallly called)

and some with a heavier version as Bachmann have modelled (I think refered to as shoe beam with gravity pickup).

I beleive these are availiable from Pheonix kits in 8'9 only but as the trailing bogie would be 8'6 where if possible would I be able to get one of these?

This difference begs the question

Was this change due to to different mk's of motor bogies?

Were they randomly changed during repairs?

Or was done during refurbishment only?

From some of the 2 EPB pics Ive seen examples are

5763 blue as Bachmann dated as 1983

Bachmann's model of 5764 is correct at least from the pic I saw of it from 14/04/83

5746 B/G as Bachmann 5/83

6410 as MJT type (undated)

As Ive not been able to find pics of B/G 6238 or NSE 6225 I cant say if thier correct or not
