My detailing/repainting projects

Thanks for that Lee.

Particularly love the Colas 60. The real things are common up here on the cement trains which adds a nice bit of variety.

Well, it's nearly Santa time, and I am actually taking a few days off! However, that generally translates into fiddling with personal projects, so the work still never stops. As I have recently powered the layout up, I have been working thorugh the fleet, and discovered a whole load of locos that need revisiting for various issues.

My 40122/D200 has recently been fitted with sound, and I discovered was one of the infamous dodgy running first batch, so new pickups have been fitted today. Other bits to do are adding Shawplan headcode discs, painting the horn grille covers brass, silver buffers, and some weathering.

40015 is another loco of mine, I had one earlier in the Year but sold it. I particularly like 15, it had a very battered appearence with some very characteristic marks/weathering. A start has been made today recreating these.

I have also just noticed with D200, even though I removed the bonnet top handrails and outer lamp brackets as per the prototype, I have managed to miss removing the excess headboard brackets. A job to be revisited.

Good afternoon all. Just a quick note to let you know that I am selling the main shed building from Haymarket Cross to fund the commission build of a new one. I'm sure you all know the building, but I attach a few pictures. Drop me a pm if it's of any interest.

The building is very well constructed from a ply skin, but I would rather not risk it via the post if possible. Collection from myself at home, or even a show would be ideal.

Regards,

Lee.

That 37 is superb! What speakers does it have inside it please? I've a few 37s to do in the near future and will be getting the Legoman sound decoders in due course.

Cheers

Been very impressed after a couple of recent sound installs with the latest from Legoman featuring his 'drive hold' feature.

Elsewhere on here is a thread where some rmwebbers are questioning the believability of sound in locos. Posting the 37 video in particular there should surely convince a few of them otherwise.

Funnily enough I did just that Dave, ad not a single comment. Go figure.....

Excuse the daft question, but what's drive hold? I'm a dc user so have no idea how this witchcraft works!

Basically you can lock the locos speed at anything you want, whilst having complete control over the engine sounds. So, set to a very low speed, and fully open the throttle. Loco will stay at crawling speed with full thrash.

Hi Eddie. I use a standard 28×40mm from Alan Butcher. Same size speaker as a factory sound installed 37. However, I install it in the tanks, fully open and facing down towards the track, with a properly sealed back box. Sounds awesome!

Em unless it's a typo ? the standard Bachmann factory sound 37 has a 20 x 40 speaker (poorly) fitted not a 28 x 40...........

Good though a tank fitted ABC 28 x 40 is in a 37, another option is the ABC 229 Bass Reflex (58 x 15 x 23) requires a lot of work to get it to fit, but the results are well worth the effort..........

Drive Lock is a very worthwhile addition, we now just need that active brake control to finish it all off............

Yes sorry you are indeed correct, my typo! I find my installation outperforms an off the shelf bass reflex.

Thanks Lee.

Sound has certainly evolved a lot and for me, its now very very good if the installation is properly done (as you have done with that 37). Its one of the reasons I have gone back to 00 (as well as Wreck-it Ralph hands).

Cheers again

New Year, not necessarily new, but many more ongoing projects!

Basic weathering started on a nice Railfreight 31. Once finished she's off to sunnier climes  :sungum:

Hi Lee,

Do love 31s in that colour scheme!  Looks superb ... if you don't mind me asking, how come the windows are purple and what is the stand its on?  Presume its designed for spray painting locos?

Hi Lee,

The sound in that class 37 is superb. Love that class 31 too very nice.

On your 7mm 37s do you always use PHD bufferbeam kit or do you make up your own?

Thanks Peter.

Hi Peter. I now have 3 Scottish sound fitted bests on the layout, 141, 188, and 418. More to come  :sungum:

Yes, I always use the PH kit. Makes life a bit easier.

Thanks Mate,

I will pay attention next time you do a bufferbeam conversion. I will contact Pete and see if I can get one.

I have a few Scottish 37s on my to do list 418 being one. Nice choice on 188 I had haulage on that back in the day. We had a really fast run with full power on departing each stop.

Cheers Peter.
