A stripped Heljan 60. I have to say this has been a bit of a nightmare. Normally, 7mm Heljans are very solid things, and aren't affected by the paintstripping process. This one developed a few cracks around the grille area, and some of the holes around the windscreen framing area needed re-drilling out as they vanished. Thinner plastic= less durability?

Some nice etched detailing.

Hi Steve nice to hear from you. To use the Powercab's higher numbered functions....

Press the key marked option, this brings F10-f19 up on the screen

Press the key marked option twice, this bringsF20-F28 up on the screen

To use F10-F19 or F20-F28 simply use the number keypad to select the function you want. To switch it off, you have to go back in again and re select.

I may have a problem here

If I power everything up I can set a road, set a loco And away we go

All the number keys control their functions and there are 3 repeats on the whistle, bell and lights butons fine so far

pressing the option key on my procab does nothing on the screen

Do I have to do anything before pressing the option key ?????

cheers

Hiya. You shouldn't have to.....probably easier to give me a call when you have the handset up and running so we can discuss what's happening.

Hi,

You need to set the option key up on your handset. I think (off the top of my head) it's on page 38 of the manual or close too it and this explains what you need to do to change the value for the option key which then enables it to do the extra functions.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Simon

Yes Simon is correct, thanks Simon.

Page 18 of the manual explains what you have to do. Feel free to give me a ring if you need a step by step.

A trip down memory lane  :locomotive:

All day long, I work on model trains. Detailing, painting, electrical, kits, you name it, it gets done. Sometimes my mind wanders, and I wonder just how I ended up here. When I started getting heavily into railways, Hornby and Lima ruled the roost. I remember Saturdays, travelling into Newcastle, and incorporating a trip to Beatties to see what I couldn't afford.

Back then on the real railways things such as grey roofed duffs were extremely rare in the North East, and they had a special appeal. Hornby must have read my mind, as in 1982, they brought out their class 47, in the shape of plain blue 47541 'The Queen Mother', with that all elusive grey roof. I just had to have one, and remember going in to buy it with Birthday money. Those were the days, and it may explain why I have temporarily gone mad. I spotted my favourite duff on Ebay the other day and just couldn't resist!

Yes, it's extremely long in the tooth now (good grief we are talking 34 Years!!), but it was just nice to purchase a memory from childhood. Does this mean there is a bit of collector in me or am I just going mad with the paint fumes?

Getting back to reality and the dayjob, here are afew items that are currently on the bench.

I have just finished a 'Thumper'. Repainted into grimy blue/grey livery. The customer also wants me to do him a centre car, which should be interesting.

A nice Scottish duff. Repainted, detailed and weathered 47711, 'Greyfriars Bobby'. I have fitted working Scottish 'car' headlamps, and they were a challenge, to say the least.

Very nice Lee, is it Glue & Glaze you've used for the marker light lenses  ?

Indeed I did.

May have to contact you at some point to have a Baccy 47 transformed into The Queen Mother. :)

Wouldn't mind a Lady Diana Spencer also

Anytime :-)

here's an interesting one. One of the 37/3 sub class. Why this particular loco was so butchered I do not know. Crudely cut away bufferbeam surrounds, removed cant rail grilles for starters.

I managed to pick one of these up secondhand, been after one for ages. Could do with a crew and lighting, but I don't think I can get this thing disassembled.

One of my favourite classes is the 56. They were always commonplace in my native North East, and I loved them in their big bold large logo livery. I have always thought the Hornby 56 is a very good model, until you make the mistake of swapping a few chassis around.

Sound and non sound have differently wired lights and are incompatible. One can re solder the led's on the board and correct them, but they are a right royal pain to do. The spring wire contacts are also a very bad job, I generally end up hard wiring cables in to ensure reliability. Ultimately, a better solution was needed, I just left my locos without lights as I couldn't find the time to modify them.

I fit quite a lot of light kits to locos now, and the clever chap that does them has just introduced a 56 light board. Jason Edmunds, otherwise known as 'Stickswipe' on Ebay. I have nothing but admiration for fellow like minded peeps who make items that make my life easier.

The old order

25214433293_93918c99a3_h.jpg010 by rothburyuk, on Flickr

The boards are supplied built, compete with resistors and ready to go. No daft spring contact system either!
