If a model of probable combination of parts of two early Patrick Stirling GNR tenders is widely mis-advertised as a "Sturrock" tender, is it any surprise to find an O2 mis-described as an O1?

It took time, but eventually I realised that this is an unconcious tribute to the unique continuity of Doncaster's steam locomotive design style. No Decorum
According to today’s Rails Roundup, the new batch is expected “sometime after Chinese New Year Q2 2024”. 2

'Sometime' being the significant word. The current disruption to container freight shipping due to events proximate to the Red Sea - Suez Canal - Mediterranean shipping route will be properly biting by then. One might hope that the recent experience of the Suez Canal constipation event will aid the forward planning to minimise disruption, but I wouldn't bank on that.
Fredo
Hi, Looking forward to the LNER O2/1 and O2/2 to join the O2/3 and O2/4 I already have. Will 63923 and 63940 carry 34F shed plates? Thanks Fred
No Decorum
An e-mail from Rails announced a “Heljan Takeover Day” at Rails HQ on Saturday, 13th. Amongst the latest samples the O2 figures. That’s good news and I hope to see pictures posted. I also hope to see a darker grey on the GNR version but no matter; whatever the shade, my pre-order stands. Edited April 7 by No Decorum Clarification that HQ is Rails HQ. 1

Did anyone get a chance to go for a poke around RoS today and see the samples / chat with Ben from Heljan? Haven’t seen much on social media as yet. No Decorum
An e-mail from Rails said that these are expected in Q3 this year. It would be agreeable to see some production samples chuntering about. Their absence suggests September rather than next month.

davidw
Having an O2/3 and O2/4, I'm looking forward to these. It felt at one point that I was one of very few happy with the models. They'll also pull a house brick!

GNR Dave
Not sure about the grey on the GNR version. The Great Northern called their freight colour 'Charcoal Grey'. Black and white images of the period show a grey so dark it's almost indistinguishable from the black smokebox. I think Heljan have use images of locos in 'photographic grey' as their reference. I've always imagined it to look more like the SECR grey. Just my opinion. 1

Fred Likewise. The earlier models received some criticism but IMHO they look formidable and run and haul superbly. Thanks to Ben, the new release promises to be even better. They don’t seem to attract as much attention as duplicate 25s, 37s or 47s (of which I have none) but they deserve it. Wave something which hasn’t been modelled before me and my eyes follow it! As soon as I heard about these, I contacted my usual retailer and was told that Heljan hadn’t yet set up pre-ordering. I shall have to check that all is well. Hoping for better yet on the new versions, same traction, more accuracy, motion made in a stiffer metal etc. !

I have never had the slightest difficulty with a retailer returning a faulty model within a week: 'failure as received out of the box' . I am hoping that the new tranche of models will retain all the positive features: smooth running mechanism with a suitable gear ratio for heavy mineral drags and sufficient weight for haulage of same, smaller flange depth* and very fine rods which much enhance appearance; faultless performance in regular operation over the past eight and a half years, a second purchase has proved equally good. *Some owners with set track or 'bumpy' layouts found these problematic for track holding; it's fine on my all flexitrack based layout, with a minimum plain track radius of 30" on the freight sections and nominally 36" minimum radius pointwork. Things to improve on, which hopefully the new tranche may have addressed, notably: some detail fragility and inaccuracy, very soft metal used for the side rods, and a rather 'unfriendly' 'encased' mechanism construction which dissuaded me from taking it apart - my usual practise with a first example of a model in RTR OO - this one said loud and clear 'touch me not'.
