mpb56125
Looks like I can collect from the warehouse in future, rather than travel into Liverpool. "You can choose to collect your order from our Smithdown Road Store in Liverpool or from our Warehouse in Widnes" The address for “Collect In Warehouse” is: 17 Montague Road Widnes WA8 8FZ Mark
srihaggis
Well it arrived One battered box but it survived with minimal internal packing. I personally prefer to see padding around the entire model to avoid damage to the box but I was fortunate on this occasion.
BG John
I have no idea why any company would use yodel. They are utter poo. Based on my experience of Yodel, I'd be very happy using them. If they provided a one hour delivery time slot like UK Mail do, that would make them perfect. Especially if they didn't turn up early, like the UK Mail driver has a couple of times recently! But from what I've read of other's experiences, I'd only use them if all the deliveries were to be made in my corner of West Wales, where they seem to have a driver who has failed his bad service training! GordonC
I've had Yodel chucking stuff over the fence into the back garden before now ... fortunately it wasn't a model on that occasion but I'd never use them again

Glad the model survived - I had a Lego set which is to be a Christmas present delivered today. The box was crushed in transit and I'm in two minds to complain to the vendor about their choice of carrier (myHermes this time...). At least it was Lego - that "crushed cornflakes" sound you get when shaking the box would be heartbreaking if it were a laptop...

The amount of dust that was on the box as well, leads me to think that it's also been dragged around a floor somewhere. I think that had the model been a typical run of the mill box (eg cereal box card thickness like Bachmann, Hornby etc), then I don't think the loco packaging would have survived, Dapol do a fantastic box, really thick and bomb-proof. Gives a sense of a quality product too. I've had stuff by MyHermes before, I don't recall any issues personally. If lego is anything like it was 20 years ago then i'm sure it would be fine! Laptops aren't what they used to be, I would be reluctant to have one sent in the post, i'd sooner collect.

I personally prefer to see padding around the entire model to avoid damage to the box but I was fortunate on this occasion. This is a courier issue. The box has been part of a pallet load - and on the bottom corner of the pallet at that. The abrasion damage looks like it was cause by a fork truck being used to shunt the pallet across the floor during which it hit something else. Your photos should be sent to Hattons - no doubt about it.
caradoc
Ordered a few things on Friday afternoon, delivered (by Yodel) on Saturday afternoon. Difficult to beat that for good service.
RMweb Gold Hroth Posted November 22, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 22, 2015 Ordered the Heljan D5900 "Baby Deltic" on Wednesday. The loco was well packed, with delivery (as requested) by Royal Mail and turned up the day after ordering, which suited me fine. Ok, I like the awkward, unsuccessful Pilot Scheme locos that Heljan have specialised in, and along with other previously bought lemons, they'll fit in nicely on a Minories-inspired layout I'm working on. The other reason for D5900 is that I've a LoneStar Treble-O-Lectric D5900 in the same livery.... Unlike the LoneStar loco (which admittedly is now something like 50 years old, with perished wiring and elastic bands), the Heljan performs excellently, and NOTHING dropped off in transit! Anyhow - a big thumbs up to Hattons for getting an ordinary loco to me promptly and without fuss!

I fully agree that it's Yodels problem, but, I do see Hattons being slightly responsible because of the lack of packaging protecting the entire contents, rather than just an edge. If it's a cost saving measure, perhaps they should offer a premium packing service for extra internal packing, i'd pay for this to ensure nothing was broken or squashed. Caddy
I am currently having a very frustrating episode with Hattons. When they first introduced the DHL option all seemed great for us out here in Oz, parcels arrived quickly, order on Monday delivered on Friday plus you could track it all the way, great fun! Then the trouble started, order goes in, you get the picking email but then nothing......... 3 days later an email to say we need an exta 78p or some such rubbish because the parcel is the wrong shape etc. OK, I was a bit taken aback but coughed up and order sent. Next order I specify in the delivery instructions box of the order that if any "extra" funds are needed above the basic DHL amount they are authorised to process immediately and send the !@#$ order. Did it do any good? NOT ON YOUR LIFE! I have even asked them to flag my account with instructions to process any order immediately but that is apparently not possible. Now months later same thing happens The whole idea of using the DHL for us in Oz is to get the order fairly quickly and reliably but just about every order comes to a grinding halt for days waiting for someone to send an email for an extra few pence. Back to this particular episode. I ordered the Adams Radial on Saturday with the usual note slipped in the delivery instruction box, got my picking email very quickly then nothing - emailed Hattons on Monday - "Oh yes thank you sir, you pre-empted our email for the extra.....it will be despatched today". Got a second email with another picking number for the extra money! Still no despatch email. Rang Hattons on Wednesday spoke to Christine - "Sorry sir, will be despatched today........" Still here I am Thursday morning here in Oz, open up computer hoping but no, nothing! At this rate it would have been quicker to have swum over for it! Maybe I could yodel for it from he top of Mt Kosciosko! Good thing is, I am back over in Liverpool in April, might try and get this sorted once and for all...... I should add that I have been trading with Hattons since the early 1970's, have never not had an order delivered or even had a damaged item. Just getting older and more impatient and feel that when you are paying for a premium service like their DHL option, you should be able to expect just that. Cheers everyone, off to take some valium....................
Caddy
Just want to add to the above post a copy of an email I have just sent to Hattons - very early Saturday morning here 7 days since I ordered the Adams Radial and it has still not been despatched...................... "Dear Hattons I woke up this morning really hoping to have an email to say that my Oxford Rail loco had been despatched, no luck. I have rung you twice, sent numerous emails, have had the money taken out of my account but after 7 days still no email to say that the item has been despatched. This is really beyond a joke. What on earth is happenning? After so many years dealing with Hattons, I am really saddened that this has occured, can somebody please sort it out. Regards Stephen Russell-Clark Queensland Australia"

Caddy
As Victor Meldrew would say "I don't believe it!" This morning - Saturday in Oz - DHL delivered the loco. I logged on to find this reply email from Hattons.... Michael Robinson (Hatton's Model Railways Ltd) 27 Nov, 18:55 Good evening Mr Clark, Checked up on this for you and the parcel has been sent, it was dispatched on the 24/11/15. Very sorry you didn't receive an email notification of this it looks like it wasn't classified as packed and so one wasn't sent, but i can assure you it has left us and is on its way. I hope this clarifies matters for you but if you have any further questions then please feel free to contact us. Kind Regards Michael Robinson The question is why did it take 3 to 4 days to ascertain that an order had actually been despatched???? Anyway a happy ending and the Oxford Radial is a smashing loco, love it.
RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted November 28, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 28, 2015 Looking for Hornby Railroad class 31 for chassis donation. What's with this? http://www.ehattons.com/149797/Hornby_R3067_HX_01_Class_31_Diesel_Electric_31256_BR_Blue_Railroad_Range_Pre_owned_DCC_fitted_Im/StockDetail.aspx Pre owned , imperfect box ,DCC fitted, £61. Right next to a new version, £57! Must be a good DCC chip to justify being more expensive than new? Not tempted by either as I found one in Hornby's Black Friday sale at £
Removed a/c
£4 for decoder isn't bad at all !! I have bought a few 2nd hand items that were DCC fitted no problems with them what so ever. Not sure what type of decoder they have in them as not important to me.

The first time they did it was with a Kernow MRC "Thumper" which was only supposed to be sold via that retailer!
davefromacrossthepond
Since making my first purchase a few years ago, I have always been impressed with Hattons. Very user friendly website and I especially like that current stock is shown. For me, the international shipping charges (I live in the U.S.) charged by Hattons are among the lowest I've encountered. More importantly, each time I've emailed them I received a very quick and complete reply, each order has been sent complete, well packed and quicly shipped. Class act all the way! david12345
Just had a frustrating 10 mins looking for the Hornby 9f in the loco section of the website. Search either returned no items or a seemingly random list of unrelated items. I wish they would put the second hand, sorry pre owned stuff elsewhere. Now ordered from another establishment. While scrolling through the list I found a Hornby class 25 titled poor runner and in the description a smooth runner. It's issues like this that are eroding my confidence in Hattons. Ian Abel
Anyone know why they have two websites? I don't get it, but presume there must be a purpose? My understanding (for probably more than a year ago now when I inquired) is that the NEW one www.ehattons.com was a disappointment to some old codgers folks who longed for the old one to stay, so they kept both. For myself I can't stand the old one and have always had pretty good luck using all the features of the new one. Oh and I've been buying from Hattons pre-web since around the early '80s... david12345
No, didn't use ehattons, just hattons.co.uk. This may be my problem. I'll need to remember next time. Thanks for that.
Removed a/c
No problem, I have always found the hattons.co.uk site a little hard to navigate and I think I would be in the position were it not for ehattons.
