Only a local authority would be capable of something like that - there must surely be other solutions ?

Wonder what the rear access (if any) is like ?

The council have installed a ramp for my 89 year old neighbour and it looks like the queue for the Pepsi Max

Having designed a few disabled ramps in difficult places, I rather take my hat off to the council for having managed to achieve this and remain compliant to code. It must have been a close run thing! I shouldn't think there were any other acceptable alternatives! A ramp always takes much more space than a Client imagines!

Or they could have dug out a disabled parking space for the family , and installed a lift at the far end to the front door, like the platform lifts the railway now installs alongside footbridges. Shouldn't have costed "much" more than the ramp...

Indeed, a ramp does take up a lot of space.

However, that shows a complete lack of imagination, thought  & the ability to think outside the box (which is why some people end up working for the public sector because they would not hold down a career in the private sector).

A design straight out of the "LA Book of standardised Concrete & Steel Designs to offend the eyes"

Far easier for the family to use & if unable to dig out a parking space (cue excuses from the LA not to) a level access (with gate) from the pavement to the lift, but that would have required a little imagination from the LA.
