Rechtsschutzversicherungsgesellschaften? Amazingly, there's a real medical word in English that's even longer. Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosi It's “a lung disease caused by inhaling very fine ash and sand dust” But you might have to play Scrabble for a very long time to get enough tiles to spell that.

That's what I assumed at first, but on checking, it seems like it's a mongrel word. Pneumono ultra microscopic silico volcano coniosi Pneumono = Greek πνεῠ́μων (pneumōn) Ultra = Latin ultrā- microscopic = Latin microscopium, from Ancient Greek μικρός ("small") + σκοπέω ("I look at") silicon = Latin silex ("silica") volcano = Latin Vulcanus ("Vulcan") - not to be confused with dust in the Vulcan Foundry coni = Greek (κόνις, kónis) which means dust

MartynJPearson
We visited a National Trust place at the weekend, as we were in one of the rooms a family walked in. "Which room's this?" asked the little lad. "The lounge" said his Mum "Oh. Where's the TV?" Shared a smile with the Mum as she went on to explain that in those days, people did alien things like talking to each other, reading or playing games.

RMweb Gold Popular Post RFS Posted October 12, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 12, 2023 (edited) This picture brought a smile to me as a retired IT pro. It's of a US Federal Data Centre in 1959 where records are being stored on punched cards. It's estimated the total data stored here is about 4.3 Gb - ie equal to a small (by today's standards already!) flash drive. The pallets contain around 27,000 boxes of cards, each box having 2000 cards with 80 bytes of data each.
