RMweb Gold Worsdell forever Posted December 27, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 27, 2016 The gully is built on a better foundation (the drain can't move as it might leak!) than the paving which will be laid on a layer of sand which will have settled, happens with tarmac too. DougN
I have to giggle at the grated pit lid. Yes I have plumbers that screw up... I like that photo as it reminds me of a project that I finished 18 months ago. The carpark was designed as a permeable paving! We still installed pits though! The comments from the civil contractor who installed the 1000mm deep of various grades of crushed rock... he was right it was like compacting marbles! No fines in the rock meant that the rocks just kept moving! Eventually it all held together to get similar pavers on top... but I will point out the area will still drain! No need for the pits though!

Cleveland is in the North Riding of Yorkshire. John Hat and coat and a fast exit, suitably chastened for my failure in basic Geography. I blame my Scottish education for that one. Porcy Mane
NAY LAD ! ! . Cleveland is in the North Riding of Yorkshire. Nay Nay Lad. Cleveland was abolished about 10 years ago. It sort of semi exists in name only. Cleveland nicked part of Durham and part of the North Riding. In return Durham was given Part of North Yorks (The Stang to the south of Barnard Castle) and managed to hang on to it. Hence the white rose in the centre of the County Durham flag. Strange thing these Counties now. They have gone all ceremonial on us. I was told by a local Councillor only a few days ago that I should not use the term "County Durham" any more but refer to it as the, "Ceremonial County of Durham". He looked a bit perplexed when I asked him if Durham still administered the Durham Shire districts of Norham & Bedlingtonshire? P

P This riminds me of the perenial local argument as to wether Saddleworth is in Yorkshire (it is ) or lancashire post abolition of greater manchester county councill . those whom livid in the area pre 74 are firmly in the yorkshire camp the comerinners and johnny come latleys tend to sway more towards lancashire the bloody heathens . now if you want a realy good argument call a ball of dough baked in an oven a bap then grab your tin hat !
