It's not a place I'd like to spend too much time in, and some people are rather sensitive about the spelling. It's a place I used to pass through as quickly as possible when I had to go that way! I grew up not far from there, and went to secondary school and sixth form in the town. I left in 1985 (as soon as the opportunity presented itself, basically) and, whilst I have have returned out of necessity a couple of times, I haven't been back for pleasure since. I do have a look on Street View fairly regularly though, in the same way that one tends to poke a recently vacated tooth cavity or sniff the milk that you know is off . On the plus side, dull sixth form Further Maths lessons were greatly enlivened by the background soundtrack of accelerating Paxman Valentas, and I did enjoy membership of the Somerset O Gauge Group, who held Sunday work and social sessions at Sydenham Community Centre, so I guess it can't have been all bad .
