Prototype Industry

Recommended Posts

I still don't see using about 30 square feet of layout to serve a single bakery with one switch, per Lance Mindheim's idea. Here's an industry that I think is better suited to a layout of any size, but it would certainly be good for a micro. It is called "AGRX" on the Santa Maria Valley web site. Google locates it at 573 South Railroad Avenue in Santa Maria, a Google street view at https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=jones+st+santa+maria+ca&ie=UTF-8&hq=&hnear=0x80ec6ced4b4c3a41:0x8715f93ee198158b,Jones+St,+Santa+Maria,+CA+93454&gl=us&ei=LcFhUMP8HsnAigLH1YG4Bw&sqi=2&ved=0CB0Q8gEwAA

There's basically one spot for a tank car.

The industry seems to be the spot and some nondescript tanks near the spot. There's what appears to be a packing house on abandoned track just past the spot:

For that matter, zooming out on Google maps to look at the track arrangement in this part of Santa Maria is instructive as well: there's a wye with the spur here embedded in it, some street running to the east, and another industrial area beyond that. This makes for a layout that's actually interesting to look at and operate.
