Being pedantic, Mike, that's an Intercity (V class) unit, not a suburban unit.

I may have travelled on that, north of Sydney to Gosford. I think it was to get started on a road trip up the Hunter Valley. I have to confess my memory is a little vague, as the Hunter Valley part included a tour of the Tyrrells vineyard and sampling their excellent produce and several varieties. It would have been rude to refuse their offers of refills.

How hot is that slidebar?

Definitely not heading for Brecon although it appears to be standing in the Brecon bay (as it was known locally).

He won't get a proper reading off that nice shiney metalwork, those IR guns only really work on matt surfaces....

Use the back of the hand like we used to with plain bearing axleboxes (you don't actually have to touch the thing!).

I was greatly impressed by that 'county badge' barrier screen when I first saw it at Paddington.  In. many respects an excellent reflection of some of the best design standards of its time and the badges were beautifully recreated in full colour (I think they were stove enamelled?).  A great shame when they went and their replacement was far more mundane although probably still  better than the way things are there today.

We all know sun comes soonest in the south, but in all honesty it gets coolest in the east 😀 and I say this as a hardy midlander 😀 I’ve been feeling a bit of a chill at the moment. (Cycling home in the rain doesn’t help)

At the moment we seem to have typical 'summer' weather with temperatures around 17C, frequent very heavy rain showers. and occasional 'sunny intervals'.   So steam heat was probably not a bad idea if the weather there was anything like the stuff we've got in the Thames Valley!

The sign at the entrance to Platform 8 indicates they are en route to Oostende, but I cannot make out the boat train departure time.

The CEP in P7 tells us that it's 1961 or later, but if it is that year, the unseen boat-train might still be steam-loco-hauled.
