The occasional patches of dirt on their faces look as if they were applied by the make-up department.  Presumably they were brought in from elsewhere - possibly carriage cleaning? - for a 'photo opportunity' (or whatever such things were called back then).  Or was it just some sort of publicity thing?

Dilton Marsh is actually a request stop station but since large amounts of housing have been built locally there is usually always someone waiting for the train and drivers generally now expect to stop - it IS unusual to actually see someone "flag" the train down these days - guessing she is a long time traveller and used to doing it.

Mrs. K, SC for a certain TOC, holds up proceedings at Thuxton as she is given some motivational advice regarding running with a knackered bandaged foot. Fortunately they held 33202 for the errant railway person. 

 

33202 got her own back and let the side down on the return at Dereham by deciding to have flat batteries thus leaving late.

Being pedantic, Mike, that's an Intercity (V class) unit, not a suburban unit.

On which you can travel from Central (Sydney's otherwise anonymous central station) to Cardiff and  then onwards to Newcastle.

Never the most comfortable of places to be, even if all the safety protocols are being followed, I should think.

Two 'westerns' are uncoupled from each other (69009 Western Consort and D1015 Western Champion) at Haworth Shed on 21st June 2024, at the start of the day during the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway's Diesel Gala.

The locos appear to be at an angle to each other and the Western cab windows are much higher than the 'whatever it is?' on the left although the buffer heights match.  The bloke doing the job appears not to be really the ideal body shape for going in-between - shorter, and skinny,  folk have a distinct advantage in that situation!!

 

Not the best of ways to have to couple as he is obviously having to lengthen the coupling to get in order to uncouple  It also looks as if the brake pipe cock on both locos are closed which is not a clever way of doing things when uncoupling.

By way of context, D1015 was in the shed, as this image taken a few minutes earlier shows, with 69009 being used to draw the (real) Western out.

 

The image also illustrates the orientation of the track outside Haworth Shed at the point that the uncoupling took place, giving rise to the angle between the two locos.
