RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted June 8, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 8, 2014 My guess is that the location in the background isn't a Network Rail location. Odd then that they should put the notices on a gate - or are people meant to block it when parking? And in supermarket car parks when you have a lot of shopping you can actually get it into your boot without difficulty if that end of the car stands open. And it would also be a lot safer if people actually manage to park centrally in a space parallel to the lines (if they are parallel to each other of course) so I reckon Mickey's comment was on the money. RMweb Gold DaveF Posted June 9, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 9, 2014 Is the worker on the left standing in a sensible safe place? RMweb Gold 96701 Posted June 10, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 10, 2014 It is ! I sit corrected. I also never reverse park in supermarket car parks.
Smiffy2
Me either. I looked around the French supermarket car park and almost no-one had. As I was putting a large lawnmower into the car it would have been quite inconvenient.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 10, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 10, 2014 I'm wondering if the sign was meant for vans, which should always be reverse parked for safety reasons (you can see bu**er all whats behind one when reversing). Engineer_London
Following post 898, which featured a picture at Ickenham with a weekend closure for drainage renewal on one line, here's another image from early this morning. Track replacement has started on the London-bound line just south of the station. It's a long-planned block closure for multiple works, lasting three weeks and associated weekends: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/travel-information/improvements-and-projects/tube-improvement/metropolitan Of course this means a bus diversion to West Ruislip and today, catching the first eastbound Central Line train to work. Literally seconds before this berthed, a fleeting chance for pictures and later, during a morning break, two photo-merging experiments. Locos and barrier wagons are stabled on the link line between Ruislip depot's 27 road and main line signal ME589, probably awaiting return northwards later in the day. No human interest, but included for interest and modelling clues.

LNERGE
I will have to ask the question. Are those bespoke concrete sleepers by the catchpit or has someone been out with the disc cutter?
Engineer_London
Some progress at Ickenham on this second weekend of a three-week block. Conductor rails are down on the London-bound track as far as the sub-station gap. Looks like an end-of shift track walk in progress. ...something to stop and mark for attention: Meanwhile the trains continue to run through the village in the form of the rail replacement bus service:
LNERGE
I will have to ask the question. Are those bespoke concrete sleepers by the catchpit or has someone been out with the disc cutter? I did ask the question but forgot to post. The concrete sleepers were trimmed to fit where the catch pits are.

RMweb Gold 4630 Posted August 13, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 13, 2014 I'm sure they're plenty of downsides, but this looks to be a splendid way to spend a working day in August. Dave Scott
A fascinating thread. I have colected a number of autobiographies of old railwaymen which are fascinatting. Autobiographies by drivers and signalmen are significant in number. Guards stories are however rare. Any ideas why?
