RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted August 11, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 11, 2012 Here are some photos of the work-related site visit I made to Burngullow a few weeks ago, a couple of which have already been posted in this forum. The site was relatively quiet, although there was a Class 66 there shunting the 'main lines', bogie wagons which had been loaded up the Parkandillack branch for Cliffe Vale. View from access point, looking towards Plymouth & London: Looking back towards Truro & Penzance, the Parkandillack line going off to the right beyond the bridge: Convergence of Imerys sidings at the north-western corner of the site: Turning round and looking back towards Plymouth again: One of the 'main lines' stabled in an old loading hopper: More photos to follow. RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted August 11, 2012 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 11, 2012 I reckon Joseph Dando would be far better employed at Burngullow on weeding duty that he would be polishing brass cannon (which had a well known propensity to burst - far better to have paid a visit to the Carron Foundry) . RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted November 22, 2012 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted November 22, 2012 There was due to be some clearance of redundant structures, that much I was aware of, I'll check what's going on.... Certainly part of the yard is still used by DBS for clay trips off the Parkandillack branch, and I understand that FLHH have re-started aggregate trains from Methrose Siding. Jack00
CK- that's intereting about the FLHH operations. Never seen Fl workings in Cornwall, would be good to see some additions to the DBS stuff. Jack.
floss_4
Has it closed now? Did I miss something? Cheers Ben A The clay works stopped being used regularly 3 or 4 years ago when the slurry traffic to irvine transfered to imports from Brazil (I think). It's only use now seems to be supplementary clay storage which has generated very little rail traffic. It is still the stabling point for traffic off the Parkandillack Branch and as CK says the adjacent Methrose siding was/is used for aggregate traffic.
