sb67
I got another bird ID photo for you. Sorry about the quality, I really need a better camera as mine struggles with birds in trees. I was thinking it could be a Redpoll or a Linnet?
tigerburnie
Linnet is more likely where you are at this time of year, pictures a bit blurry to tell for sure.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 11, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 11, 2021 I posted this a couple of hours ago but it seems to have disappeared (or I didn't click Submit Reply). Could be a female black cap (females have a brown cap). Hard to tell from the angle of the pic.
sb67
Thanks guys, it def had reddish tinges on it's chest but I couldn't see the top of the head. I'm going to the same place at the weekend so if I'm lucky I might see more. Been looking at new cameras too!
Jeff Smith
Here in Florida we have some interesting wildlife and road hazards. The cranes are fearless and seem to know they are a protected species. The family of four has lately been only three - perhaps a gator got the small one....
RMweb Premium 03060 Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 14, 2021 (edited) Year of the Chiff-Chaff for me so far, a bird which I suspect is more common in my local woods than I've ever regularly managed to identify. However I have seen several over the last few weeks, one only a few feet away. That was then 'topped' by this little chap that I came across whilst ascending Ben Arthur yesterday. I spent several minutes watching it from almost touching distance as it pretended to be a 'flycatcher' darting out and back as midges passed by, nearly landing on my camera phone more than once and not bothered by either myself or my dogs. 4 hrs later on my descent it was still performing in the same spot, marvellous. Edited May 14, 2021 by 03060 Dodgy photo replaced.
RMweb Premium 03060 Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 14, 2021 The other 'wild' animal I came across in Scotland was me as I turned around to find and smell that somebody else had been getting 'close to nature' with me distracted ....with a 5 hour car journey ahead of us I was raving !! I just, really, hope that it was fox or deer poo ! Dirty Boy ! 4 5

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 16, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 16, 2021 I am hearing a strange call at the moment. Its like a short deep bark but its not any sort of dog. I'm wondering if it could be a Muntjac deer?
tigerburnie
Reeves Muntjac or Barking Deer, not un common in England after being introduced into Bedfordshire tried to add a youtube link, but it doesn't seem to work. sb67
I got a new camera at the weekend, went out Sunday over our local park, it chucked it down but was treated to these, well worth a soaking!
Jeff Smith
This is the pond across the road from our house. We have not had much rain lately so the water is very low, probably not many fish left now. These are mainly wood storks and of course a young deer. iPhone pics so not the best zoom. Not sure what the brown birds are.

sb67
Seen Swallows out on my walk this morning, totally fearless diving between buildings and in and out stables. Cant believe they've flown all the way from Africa to get here! Does anyone know what this could be? My first thought was Chiff Chaff but it wasn't making the usual Chiff Chaff sound, just a repetitive low chirp.
jonny777
My guess would be a garden warbler.

RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted May 26, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 26, 2021 Not come across this thread before. Some great photos. I had a barn owl fly into the loft last week. Too surprised to think of getting the phone out and taking a photo. I am pretty inexpert in recognising birds and other wildlife. I will post photos but I may need you to identify for me. A rather colourful (yellow/black) lizard in the cellar earlier today. I am used to green lizards that tend to move quite quickly. This chap was moving rather slowly as though old and/or in some pain. I know how he feels!
