Meanwhile, I'm fitting couplings to anything that moves.  Tonight it was the turn of the the twin bolsters (which had their underframes sprayed this morning before I went to work):

IMHO the trickiest part of forming the AJ couplings is doing the initial 180 degree bend.  Today the postie brought me a neat little jig I had ordered from Palatine Models which helps with this part of the process and significantly reduces the amount of swearing I do when the end of the wire pokes into the end of my finger.

Wow!

Really pleased with how that looks.

Please feel free to blend the buildings in as much as you like.

I forgot to add a stone step for the office door.

Add the junk in the bag whereever is suitable, I'll be sending some more to go in WC's.

I have made some roads into loads.  This one is fibre optics (poor frosty.......... ).  Chopped, bound in small bundles with wire as per a prototype shot I have, dipped in thinned Polyurethane varnish and primed.  Compared with the prototype the rod is stiffer and should slump more around the bolsters.  I have more of frosty to play withy.post-8894-0-49066800-1358892669_thumb.jpg 'L' section plastic strut.  an expensive way of replicating a load post-8894-0-57936900-1358892692_thumb.jpg This one is made from timber and will need sanding, painting, sanding and painting before it stops looking like timber.post-8894-0-09760900-1358892717_thumb.jpg  Possibly the best yet.  The plan is for some of the inbound billets to arrive on BAA's which had a much higher capacity 70 tonnes plus.  This looks good but has a scale section of 6 inch - must have been using the same calculator as Arthur.... post-8894-0-20071700-1358892745_thumb.jpg Finally an underside view, each has or will have some added weight to give the load some presence on the wagon and something to give the 108 / 1 box of Arthur's DE2 something to do.post-8894-0-77563500-1358892772_thumb.jpg

Don't forget to mark the WC material as 'hazardous waste'!

Some initial toning already done (just power at this stage) but I'm going to wait until the building is under the layout lights.

Fed up cutting slabs!

That's Larssen, box section, sheet steel piling, adjacent edges have an interlocking section rolled into them, so they slide together to form a continuous 'wall'. They are driven vertically into the ground, to provide support for earthworks.

It's the kind of stuff frequently seen driven into canal and river banks to provide support, the kind of stuff Andy is casting I guess.

Cargo Fleet held the UK manufacturing rights for many years, and did a good trade in it.

Pub board - c 700mm each side (excludes Nigel's lock craters).

Signal box / sidings board - c 700mm each side

Canal board guessing at - 2 x 900mm plus 2 x 300mm.

so approx 5200mm in total....

With the help of casting wizard daughter No 2 we have achived 3520mm to date - Im off to cast another 440mm which Lottie will strip out and recast in the morning (i'm of the Southampton at 5.30pm).

Night all

Bill has been used quite a bit for sizing issues during the build - it seemed only fair to include him once it was finished.

Whatever is going on in the yard, the staff know Mr Millward is watching...

Ok, eyes down, here's your starter for 10!:

B'ham - Wolverhampton line:

B'ham New Street: http://www.thewellingtonrealale.co.uk/  (5 mins walk, use Navigation St exit & Ian Allan shop en route)

Sandwell & Dudley: The Waggon & Horses https://plus.google.com/100084158584197638152/about?gl=uk&hl=en#100084158584197638152/about?gl=uk&hl=en (10 mins walk, Oldbury Town Centre)

Dudley Port: Port 'n' Ale https://plus.google.com/103484432666560172473/about?gl=uk&hl=en#103484432666560172473/about?gl=uk&hl=en (10 mins walk towards Great Bridge). Recommended.

Tipton: A mini pub bash here, first off, The Fountain Inn (2-3 mins walk along Owen Street) Then continue along Owen Street & turn right onto Sedgley Rd West. After 5 mins, you'll find http://www.madorourkes.com/ (food very much recommended). You can then retrace your steps to Tipton, or if you're into music, walk down Hurst Lane & stopoff at https://plus.google.com/113489190017938204002/about?gl=uk&hl=en#113489190017938204002/about?gl=uk&hl=en - beers not much but the live music's great. Afterwards, follow Factory Rd to take you back to Owen St or follow the 'cut'.

Wolverhampton: The Great Western - inbetween the High & Low level Stations & mentioned earlier. Unmissable.

B'ham - Stourbridge line:

B'ham Moor St: http://www.anchorinndigbeth.co.uk/ - about 10 mins walk & adjacent to the Coach Station. Catch the 50 Bus outside Selfridges, it's a 2 stop journey & will drop you off literally outside the door.

Snow Hill: http://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/theoldcontemptiblesedmundstreetbirmingham/ - adjacent to station. Also, The Wellington (mentioned earlier) is within a 5 min. walk.

Can't really comment further on down the line as not been drinking there lately. (& most of my old haunts have been bulldozed )

Metro: Use this guide - http://www.pubsgalore.co.uk/crawl/viewcrawl.php?crawl=493 - The Olde White Rose at Bilston is VERY recommended!

Hope this helps!

(Edited for spelling)

Many Thanks Dave, I have done a few at the Brum end, so will be looking to do a few in the black Country. It looks as if I will need to hollow me legs out to get all that beer in.

Cheers SS :drink_mini:

If you spot any interesting buildings on your wanders be sure to take a photo or two.

Hi Chris

I have charged up the batteries in my small pocket sized camera, just in case although the results may become a bit blurred as the day wears on.
