iL Dottore
Well, as promised, some photos of progress... First off, a cruel close up of why I'll be replacing the glazing with etched or laser cut windows: Try as I might, even using micropipettes, I always got some bleed onto the "glass" - so rather than go potty trying to keep everything pico bello and end up redoing the windows over and over again (what is pictured is my 4th attempt at a window that would satisfy me), I've conceded defeat and will go the laser cut/etched window route. I also rebuilt the office in order to have it fit better in the building (my previous effort had the floor sitting at window sill level). I've added piles of paper and, in the middle of a newspaper, is a black JSP fag packet (just about visible). The new construction fits very nicely into the builiding. I've also added doors, powder blue as on the prototype (but not yet weathered). Gate Reception Door: The door knob is a tad oversized, but I can live with it. Workshop door: To which I've added those aluminium "kick panels" that protect the bottom of the doors. I've fitted the chimneys and test fitted the roof and water goods: I know the roof needs attention - that's why it is tacked into place and I suspect that I'll be spending a happy hour or two sanding back the roof supports until it sits "just right". The water goods (downpipes) are held in place by brass wire "retaining pins" but not yet glued into place. At present I'm unconvinced by the downspouts, they look a little bulky in the photos, but are reasonable "in the flesh" iD Edited February 3, 2013 by iL Dottore

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2013 So is the cling film wrapped viaduct going to stay that way as an art installation? Why not, I think it adds something to the look of the layout.

RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2013 Think we need to turn the layout through 180degrees. Unless we just get used to this view:

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2013 And now for something not beer related... Oh, the curved card wingwall to Andy's viaduct is temporary. It and the clingfilm are to prevent me cacking up other people's work with fluff and gunk.
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 3, 2013 I thought the river was going to be wider than it appears to be, or is this a temp fix to be re -done later ?

RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2013 And a few more from earlier on. I didn't take too many as it's not a great idea when fingers are covered in glue and fluff. These were taken after the first fix scenics was completed and prior to the photos in the post above.

RMweb Premium Mark Forrest Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2013 And now for something not beer related... I thought the only reason we were building this was so we could go drinking in different towns and cities which happened to be hosting a model railway exhibition?
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2013 More progress shots from earlier. These were all taken during the 'second' fix scenics being added. Still lots of plant detail to be added but it's now moved on from the bland canvas, well, at least on these two boards!
RMweb Premium 2ManySpams Posted February 3, 2013 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 3, 2013 That Doom looks nice, there seems to be some sort of trainset in the rest of the thread though ... :S I'd still be there if they hadn't have run out.
