Some of the stock that has appeared in this thread will be in action on Foundry Lane (aka Black Country Plank) at Expo EM in Bracknell over this weekend, with Andy "Wagonbasher" Banks and myself at the controls.  It's the first time the layout has been out since I changed my car and it's proving to be a surprisingly tight fit!  Think I'd better check I've not loaded one of the BCB boards instead......

Take the mattress out!

One of the lorries in the box sent to me by Mark was a yellow BR Bedford TK, Mark had given this a light weathering and I have fitted mirrors and touched up the weathering a bit with powders.

Here is one of the new Oxford Morris Marinas, mirror and wipers fitted, minimum weathering as it's fairly new.

Could have been options - I seem to recall that most external mirrors were optional or aftermarket fitted back then? I certainly remember putting a drivers door mirror on my first Mk1 Escort - & then taking it off when I sold it to put it on the next one. And the next one. And the.....!!

External mirrors were only mandatory on vans and estate cars (where the view through the interior mirror could be obscured by a load). Many manufacturers offered them as an extra and the choice of drivers side only or both sides.

External mirrors were only necessary fairly late on. The law was changed to state a minimum of 2 mirrors, including the interior one, so vans would have to be fitted with 2x external if the view through the back was obstructed. My A30 (1955) was fitted only with an internal one, though I added 2x wing mirrors.. The Marina (L reg) I think was the same; I fitted 2 wing mirrors as accessories. Its replacement, an Ital (X reg) had door mirrors on both sides (it was the top of the range one) but again I fitted 2x wing mirrors. Must admit I do prefer wing instead of door mirrora - you don't have to move your head as they are in your line of sight.

So, this morning I got one of Felton Lane's boards out to do a bit of work on it, I popped out for a couple of hours and when I got back...

Miraculously the 'tina was patched up for last weekend and the owners went for a sightseeing drive, managing to break down again, (unsurprisingly), at Foundry Lane.

Somebody should do the decent thing with the old heap and give it a burial at sea, or at least canal.

There's a nice photo of it over in the ExpoEM thread, 'tina seems to have attracted the attention of the local plod.

I bought some of these at ExpoEM, in the hope they could be adapted to suit the Starfish:

TBH, they are probably a little too big (and look even more so in this photo in their unpainted state), but once painted I think we'll get away with it:

Some detail here, taken today on the Magdalen Disused Railway Bridge near Kings Lynn, Norfolk.

It is on the branch that went from Watlington to Wisbech, and crosses the Great Ouse Relief Channel.

Having a look for a correct reg. number for the Bedford TK S&T van.  Not much information on the London Midland Region ones, but one from the Midlands was FCH70J based at Tyseley.  We had a similar one at Llandudno Junction which saw service from 1970 to 1978.
