Jack00
Went down to Hayle Beach today (in the mist and rain) and noticed everytime i go there it changes, almost beyond recognition. Especially Clifton Terrice, where the old branch once ran. The developing site oozes atmosphere and would make an excellent layout / diorama in any scale of the quay and harbour scene. I'll add more pictures, when i pop there again get some decent picstures of the enterance and harbour office, and the path where the line ran ( on the petrol garage side and under the bridge. ) Jack.

Yes often thought this would make a good layout - don't forget to include the swing bridge.....chain driven I seem to recall. Good luck, Brian. RMweb Premium Ramrig Posted May 10, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 10, 2012 A topic ran on the old forum about the branch with a lot of past and present images. I don't think you can currently access the old forum pages. I can reload my images from about 3 years ago if any one is still interested?

Jack00
Just read an artical about the development of the wharf, and apparently some of the rails that remain are being retained, i guess its a bit like Heartlands Centre style, keeping a small part of original history still intact. RMweb Premium Ramrig Posted May 10, 2012 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 10, 2012 Next set. More buried pointwork looking towards the Swing bridge. There was also a pile of stored rail on the quayside. The viaduct on the mainline can be seen in the background. Even the old weighbridge was still there! Some of the old rail had been cut into short lengths to use as marker posts at the edge of the road. Also one of the rails can still be seen in the tarmac More of the rails can be seen in the road way as we head towards the swing bridge. The creamy/yellowy building in the background is the outdoor swimming pool/Lido The end of the trackwork behind the swimming pool on the approach to the swingbridge. The former trackbed up to the bridge Site of the level Crossing across the old A30 The old Control house for the winding gear for the Swingbridge Control Equipment More to follow later...................

Coombe Barton
We'll be spending some time there in August - SWMBO (the buildings history person) is taking an interest in the regeneration, and we'll be using the maps published in Great Western Journal 71 (Summer 2009) and the others that we have. winterbournecm
I remember the old thred, and it seems may have expired. I am involved with a group on Facebook called Nostalgic Hayle, and there has been a lot of interest in the hayle Wharves trains. One gem that came out this weekend was details of the road oil tank shunter that dealt with the tanks at the Esso depot. One chap who serviced it each week has identified it as 1967 AEC Mandator E reg numbered 9744. The guys from Copperhouse garage used to service it on a Friday afternoon. We are hopeful of getting some pictures shortly too.
RMweb Premium Kris Posted March 31, 2014 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) It's amazing just how much has changed in the last few years. The site is unrecognisable (in railway terms) from that show in the earlier photos. Edited March 31, 2014 by Kris
winterbournecm
I have recently been given a collection of fabulous photos by John Lloyd. John worked at the Esso depot for many years, and operated the shunter tractor which hauled the tanks into the Esso plant. His collection shows regular rat visitor 25155 shunting the tanks, and some interesting shots inside the depot, including a partial picture of the tractor complete with buffer beam and draw hook attached. RMweb Gold Ramblin Rich Posted April 17, 2014 RMweb Gold Share Posted April 17, 2014 That sounds wonderful, Craig - I love the thought of slightly ramshackle operations, especially with road inlaid track. Any chance of posting them here or a link if they're going to be hosted elsewhere?
