When the real thing looks like a model

This is some of the finest weathering I've ever seen.

You're kidding??!!? Totally inconsistent & unconvincing weathering on the vans, and very poor brushed gloss varnish on the loco. 🤦‍♂️🤣

The bridge & the trees on the other hand, are superb. Such contrasting standards are often common on club layouts, unfortunately. 🤔

Nah that’s a side view from Andy Strouds Blueball summit.

Beautiful work on every part of this scene except couldn't be @rsed to ballast/underlay the track - just stuck it straight down!🙄

And is that a mildly bashed Airfix engine shed in the background?

Plus it doesn't even hide the join in between the two baseboards either.

Mind you, it is a WIP, they haven't even had time to pop down the Modelu figures or any of the clutter needed to make it look realistic.  The steps are a good start, though they were obviously fiddly to do which has slowed things down. Every depot has a group of three people in conversation, I mean have you ever seen such a tidy stabling point?

Derby Works 1973 by Kevin Connolly

Cabs at Derby Works 1973.

Hmmm, I like headcode boxes and I like headcode discs, but can only afford one loco. I know, I will put both on the same loco.

Rear cab 5_14 ? got both, might this be the replacement cab for 24055 (think it was that one but happily stand corrected) which carried both after accident damage repairs ?

Nevertheless a very rare shot of the two generic derby sulzer cab fronts then a mixed up / mashed up one all together.....

This struck me so much I am posting for the first time in months. Doing supplier research in my job and this is on a supplier’s website. It is a picture of the picture. It is completely real but pitch shifted to the extent the curvature and profile of the track looks completely like Hornby. Ballast glued up against the rails, convincing modelu figures and Noch plant. Only those clunky frogs spoil the illusion of this being real!

If you want to view the actual picture it is on the Kent Group website.

Good! A prototype for my layouts (wrt the ballast - lack).

Looks like they have used the split cork underlay, OO version spread to encompass P4?

The edge of the shed on the r/h of the picture looks like genuine Bilteze brick paper!

I also like the use of the photographic backscene behind the retaining wall to give an illusion of depth to the scene.

I think the advertising on the retaining wall rather spoils the effect though, who is going to see it on the railway side rather than the road side ?

There was a rather nice model of this section of Camden bank in MRJ 172 (2007). It was part completed at the time but I don’t know if there was any follow up.

I never really find these "trains everywhere" loft or basement empires very realistic, to be honest.

You only have to look at Boston Lodge to see how unrealistic it looks when every last square inch is filled with track and sheds. And it’s getting steadily worse!

Tree's are too tall, loco is too shiny, random collection of stock, boring backscene building....

I can never get the brass roof to fit on an etched kit.

What a strange vehicle, I hardly think first class passengers would approve of travelling with the laundry.
