GeorgeT's (7mm Workbench) TPO

Recommended Posts

Hello Cav,  You don't fancy scribing in N gauge then Hahahahaha, wouldn't fancy that either...

Not really. I have a load of brickwork to get done for BoT and there isn't a fat lot out there that I'm happy with in N. From what I can find I think decent papers are the best for the tiny scale. Stone is a different story though.

Anyway we digress. The stone on your 7mm stuff is looking great.

Thanks for all the likes guys, made a start on the box using plasticard...

I like the adhesive bottle holder idea, simple and effective. Brilliant. Thanks for the idea George (and the modelling is brill as well).

If your using Plasticard for the planking, try roughing it up a bit first with a wire brush or course sand paper to give a grain effect. To many at shows are SMOOTH plastic with a few grooves in them.

I tend to disagree with this. In reality unless you are up close the wood looks flat. Sitting 8 feet from an unpainted wooden door I can see the grain but the wood looks smooth. We had this problem in the clock trade. Plastic clocks had to have rough grain like unfinished wood. Wooden clocks had to be very smooth and shiny like plastic.

Looking great George. I also have to agree with N15class. Once over a few feet away you cant see the grain, especially if the wood is painted over. In fact if its been well prepped you cant see it up close either!! Adding course grain is doing what you think is there rather than what is there.

Example from the tinterweb.

Not much in the way of grain visible here.

Lovely work on the signalbox George, I particularly like your stonework.

All the best,

Dave.

Hello Dave, Thanks,  it's really nice to put the stones where you want them to go and not trying to match plasticard up...

Some more work on the box today, needed a staircase so looked at some on the web then decided to make my own from the scrap box needs cleaning up a bit but better than buying one, also put the cladding onto the sides and front...
