Getting away from generic small buildings/houses.

Has more than a whiff of O.Winston Link about it, being well-lit in the dark. Great photo, as you say, Pete.

It reminded me immediately of the O Winston Link photos. I got a copy of "The Last Steam Railroad in America" from a sale in Borders. One of my favourite train books!

Most of my photos of buildings would come into the generic small category but here is a Main St (Collinsville, CT) taken from the former depot yard.

Walthers, City Classics and DPM generic parts and buildings were used in these scenes. Composition is very important in trying to make the generic parts into a believeable whole. The generic Walthers backscene was eventually replaced with photographs as there was only so much you could do to hide it. Wills, Ratio and Rix parts are also evident in the third photo.

Here's a few from me. Further west.

This is Inglewood in Calgary. One of the few remaining areas with buildings dating from the early 20th century. These are unusual in that they are brick built. Most buildings would have been sandstone.

This is Hungry Horse Montana. Its claim to fame was one of the largest mail order model railroad shops in the US used to be there. Note the steep all metal roofs.

Β

The famous Eddie's of Apgar in Glacier Park Mt. Lots of good detail and I think it would make an interesting model. Your mileage may vary. Having seen this pic though, I have a sudden craving for Huckleberry icecream.

Not a building so much as a sign for a drive-through liquor store. These are popular in Ohio, at least - and are large sheds where you literally drive through the building, in many cases.

Main St, downtown Barberton. Note how no two buildings have the same frontage or roofline..

Barberton Herald building. At first sight a simple box, relieved by some decorative brickwork.

Residential street scene - included to show the typical "clutter" in terms of utility lines, street furniture, etc that abounds in older neighborhoods.

Some rail-served industry (heavy variety) now - again from Barberton OH:

Β

Firstly, one of the newer parts of the Babcock & Wilcox boiler plant. This is one of the plants where they make boilers for power generation stations.

Beaut! Often wanted to stop there but my Wife has always been in such a hurry. Very interesting area, thank you very much.

Β

When did you take them, today? Although I haven't seen a cloud in the sky and our trees are a little more advanced....

Β

Best, Pete.

If you hover over the photos the date is part of the file name. The are a couple of years old.

Β

Easton has some choice buildings too, at least one has made it to kit form.

Got more cars than you have room for on your layout? Here's an idea....

Β

Bliss Hot Rod Diner, in Florence, Oregon. This has bits of cars from most years from the 50s and 60s mounted on it...
