Jon Grant 4472
I'm repainting a Broadway SD40-2 into KCS post-1995 livery and have the decal set for the barber-twist yellow striped handrains. However I have had no luck whatsoever applying the decals, which just fall to pieces in a soggy Micro Sol mess after applying. Before I take to handpainting the yellow stripe, has anyone had any success with these decals? Ta Jon
CraigZ
Jon, I'm not sure what's in the Microscale decal set, but an older modeler once told me did the KCS handrails by using yellow decal stripe and wrapping the things like a barber pole off the engine. He did not apply the decal solution until it was all in place and mostly dry. It makes sense to me...I've heard of others trying it - some ran away, some turned to drugs and alcohol... Jon Grant 4472
I ended up doing it by hand. It doesn't stand up to close scrutiny but passes the '3ft test'. Jon
