Wow, they don't mess about at Dapol do they ? Shrewd choices, 73 is out of region/period for me a bit but I like the boxy little thing - I hope Hornby gets the message that it's rewarmed lima isn't going to cut it anymore if Dapol are willing to play with the big boys.

The 08 is incredible value - I hope it won't be a , eh, coarse scale version. Having just sold my unused O gauge points to concentrate on OO this could see the biggest U turn yet !!

Well done Dapol .

Hmmm, i'll wait till you do the class 73 in Gatwick express livery then i will buy one, i dont remember then as intercity strangely.

Got one sat behind me from Lima, "Airtour Suisse" ironically ready for detailing but think i wont bother now plus its got a poorly painted roof when i bought it.

Which one would i like? 73202 "Royal Observer Corps" please :good_mini:

Ironically I have the last ever class 73 "Gatwick Express" wording vinyl seen in this pick given to me on a private visit to SL, no " flag" emblem though.

Certainly a nice one to do, but it will either ave to wait until the second round of liveries or be picked up by a stockist as a special edition.

Cheers

Dave

Mmmm, 73 is very nice Dave. I do hope that you'll scale it up to 7mm in due course :good_mini:

Cheers

I gather Gaugemaster are commissioning two Pullman 73101's (Brighton Evening Argus and The Royal Alex) and kernow have nabbed the Network Rail yellow option!

Dutch, NSE, Gat-Ex, County of West Sussex Intercity original, all would find a home here. Just about to send a loco around to my depot to pick up all my Lima and Limby 73's and escort them to the condemmed siding!!!

Pre orders placed for Blue 73 and Blue 08.

Quantum leap into O Gauge, price has always been the hurdle for me. £169 excellent value, compares with some top end 4mm models. Many have said once you dabble in O there's no going back .....now waiting for the hydraulics to have my own Phill Dyson clone garden railway.

I think that 08 is simply amazing value. In fact, I can scarcely believe a commercial organisation can produce a RTR 0 Gauge loco for that price! I just hope they follow up with something useful to me, like a J10...

Though the wagons have had some criticism I still think they're cheap for what they are, and I'm sure that a lot more people are now going to be tempted into the 7mm fold. You won't regret it chaps, honestly.

As intimated before there's more O gauge news to follow when the new catalogue is released. I've found this news to be really exciting as I feel it will open up more 7mm layouts in the 'plank' genre very quickly; certainly talking to a few people yesterday they were ready to jump at the prospect of a small O gauge layout and get to grips with some wagon kits to go with it (which will hopefully mean good news for the cottage industries too) as having more presence than 4mm. It's a bold move in terms of pricing compared to where the market has traditionally been before but the logic that a small loco can be produced for that price is sound as it's not necessarily the raw materials that cost the money, particularly with a plastic-bodied loco.

The adaptable use of slides will allow for many variants of the 08 and I know several folk will be clamouring for a late-crest green with wasps. Undoubtedly prices may rise at some future point so if that's the chosen livery it may well be worth getting one of the first releases and get busy with a repaint/renumber.

Dapol had my vote for manufacturer of the year 2011 based on three things.

1. Their class 22 and LMS twin models

2. The customer facing approach in the development of the Western project

3. Dapoldaves constant presence here and the support he has given to his customers.

I'm sure 2012 they will scoop the top prize with a host of new models including 21/29 NBL 41 and these announcements. I think Dapol have laid down the standard other manufacturers should try and emulate. I hope to see similar threads on these developing projects with updates from Dave and his trips to China.

I really hope this is a great model. The price looks superb and the probability of more locos on the horizon is looking really good. This is the boost O gauge needs, Its about time the manufactures started using OO gauge production methods for O gauge,

Getting away from high cost metals and using injection moulded plastics to get the cost down to a reasonable level.

Well done Dapol

Did origionaly pre-order the ews class 08 but looking at the rtr wagons available in O changed it to the blue one as it covers a larger time era and the shorter base 4 wheeled wagons will be easier to use on a small plank. Also have pre-ordered now before the price rises kick-in. wife will kill me especially if she finds out the price but considering my sound Hornby 08 was only 30quid less -total bargain!

I know nothing about O gauge so when the time is right expect lots of questions on power/ control etc.

cheers

mark

ps not forgetting the network 73 ordered from kernow- yes wife will kill me!

Hi Mark,

Welcome to the senior scale as some folk like to call it, I changed up to 7mm from EM about 18 yrs ago and I for one have never regreted the move :sungum: .

The 'n' & 'oo' releases sound good too, but the 08 alone truly deserves to have the 2012 model & manufacturer of the year awards well & truly wrapped up within days of the 2011 results being announced.

Blimey! can we wait till we've seen it first??? :O

Well done Dapol, a really excellent set of choices; as Andy says the late green/stripes 08 shunter willl be the one many will go for, but what about one in early BLACK?

A class 22 in O would be great tooo.....come on Dave you know you want to make one..got all the CAD work too

As I think I've mentioned before I'd sell body parts and mortgage family members for an r-t-r Class 22 in O Guage to the quality of the current OO offering :-)

Fortunately a keenly priced 08 won't involve such a drastic course of action... pass the pre-order form chaps!

I have Pre-ordered an 08 from Hattons... first time I have EVER pre-ordered anything!!

I would go so far as to say that this loco will keep me 'in' British O Scale - much as I admire brass kits such as MMP, and Heljan's RTR range of locos, prices are still very high for me - in one sense a good thing as it stops "impulse buying", but in other ways a very real drawback to making much progress in the scale.

Dapol are blowing this entire myth of "It's O Scale so it MUST be expensive" right out of the water! BRAVO!!! :D

Congratulations for completely missing the point! :bye:

Yes, there's always the 'VEP' factor to fear, but I have confidence now in Dapol delivering something that looks / measures the part & comes with certain bells & whistles (actually, i'd be happy enough if it came with moulded handrails etc, cos that gives me an easy upgrade/personalisation option) but i also digress.

The point being, this one solitary release (pitched where it is in terms of price & choice of loco) rather than merely expanding an existing stud, single handedly blows open a new scale to the masses. It will deserve accolades by the bucketload for that alone.

:locomotive:

I see your point Dave but on another angle, I also see Eagle's. Over in the Heljan DP2 thread, folk were repeatedly told that they shouldnt make negative comment without a model in their hands. Surely the reverse should apply also, that it's a tad premature to be talking in these terms before the thing is even a line on a drawing.
