Branwell
Just stumbled upon these whilst looking for something else - Huddersfield Railway Modeller's Colne Valley lout - very impressive indeed. http://www.huddsrailwaymodellers.co.uk/2mm%20page.htm Edit: And there's a video as well - (2mm bit starts at 6:50). Ian Smith
Couldn't decide whether to post these here or in the Expo2015 thread, however since they are "2mm layouts out and about" decided here was a better place, so enjoy ... A few snaps taken at Expo 2015 : Brafferton : Lambourn : Llangerisech : Wilberforce Yard : And finally my own Modbury (I hope everyone will forgive the inclusion) : Ian Edited June 22, 2015 by Ian Smith

Ian Smith
Love the tarpaulins, Ian. From what are they made? Jim Jim, The tarpaulins are inkjet printed on green Rizla's - Rich Brummitt's idea not mine - the artwork for the tarpaulins is my own though. Effectively, the artwork is done so that the white parts are the colour of the paper, and is printed to size on a normal piece of paper. A Rizla is then "masking taped" in place over the relevant area of this sheet and a reprint is done passing the same sheet through the printer again. The reprint (and indeed the original print) is done with the printer setting to "draft". Once the ink has thoroughly dried, the tarpaulin is cut out with a scalpel and attached in place over the "load" with thick cyano, starting in the centre of the load/wagon and working outwards trying to ensure that the folds look realistic. The one one the leading wagon was only done on Thursday night before travelling up to the Expo on Friday so although it has had a sealing coat of matt varnish I have yet to go over it with a wash to tone down the white lettering. At some point I will try to put some ropes in place. Ian

If you want to see knitting you need to look inside my control panel (or under the baseboards for that matter!) Each signal switch is connected to a pair of relays which in turn supply power to the track sections. One relay supplying power in rear of the signal and the other in advance of it. The one in advance includes a "stay alive" circuit so that track power can be maintained once the train has passed the signal and it has been returned to Normal.
RMweb Gold Donw Posted June 22, 2015 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 22, 2015 I was very impressed with Modbury Ian and it was good to have a chat. Some nice pictures too. I think the design of the layout works well for exhibition use. Don

RMweb Premium Llangerisech Posted October 18, 2015 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 18, 2015 Just been along to the Uckfield show today and grabbed the chance to back date Kyle with Pete's permission! The 4F has recently been converted using the Association hornblocks and the main mods to the Farish Stanier coaches are re-wheeling and paper corridor connections. We think this is the first time a kettle has ventured on to Kyle and I reckon it looks the part. For some reason the loco wasn't too keen on the Pictroller but was fine using the new little item stocked by the Association shop. At least I didn't inflict GWR stuff on Pete - and thanks for letting me play for a while. Nigel A

There were a few other cameos that day too - hoping to do a blog update this weekend on the show and beyond...
Caley Jim
The Forth and Clyde area group had Sauchenford at the Aberdeen show this week end. Three photos attached. A 'drone's-eye' view of the layout with a loaded coal train leaving. A couple of shots of a quiet moment with Alisdair's 08 resting in the lye siding. The PO wagon is in memory of our late friend and fellow member Colin Brady. Jim
autocoupler942
I was trying to tune in to BBC 4 (without success) but just happened to catch a program on BBC Alba (at 9pm tonight). Although it was heavily subtitled it was mainly (if not all) on Highland Railways but I could recognize Kyle.

RMweb Premium Ian Morgan Posted February 13, 2016 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 13, 2016 I have just returned from a lovely day out with 'Freshwater' at the exhibition in Yate. I have exhibited in church halls before, but this was my first time actually in a church! Today was the first appearance of my Terrier, number 8 'Freshwater' with its new etched chassis. It performed well for the first hour and a bit, but then a crank pin must have caught on a footstep and it bent a con-rod and un-quartered a wheelset. Luckily Jerry was demonstrating (pronounced chatting) at the next table, and he did a quick repair, but my Terrier was still limping a bit, so I need to get the quartering right again in time for EuroTrack in Southampton in a couple of weeks. Jerry has recently moved to DCC, so he was able to lend me one of his Terriers (Stephanie) to shunt the layout rather than Dave's shunting stalwart, the Class 33. Also new on the layout is printed backscene. I have hidden most of the backscene behind the actual scenery, so it is mostly sky and clouds, which I find less domineering. RMweb Gold queensquare Posted February 14, 2016 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 14, 2016 Indeed, a really enjoyable day out at the Yate show. Freshwater has made a great deal of progress since the last time I saw it and it looks and performs very well. Stephanie had a good runout on the layout and looked very much at home. Ian and I swapped spare Terrier bodies - I had an IOW version, Ian a regular bunkered one so both of us can now add more appropriate Terriers to our respective fleets. Stephanie is seen below with a typical piece of IOW rolling stock. Jerry
