Nice  shot Alastair, we were following it today and managed shots at Barry, Margam, Briton Ferry, Tondu and Pontypridd.

It's a shame the Aberthaw semaphores have been swept away though

Thanks Jo. Not the same without the semaphores, you're right, but still a nice location. I did actually manage to stop to see it come back from Maesteg through Tondu, but didn't have my camera with me as we were en route to a restaurant for our wedding anniversary meal. My wife is getting used to my random little detours.......

A few shots of the Taffy Tug 2 yesterday now I have processed them.

60039 and 60040 were the day's lucky numbers, with a bonus ball of semaphores at Tondu.

60039 worked the entire tour from Temple Meads, with 60040 being added at Margam.

So first up Barry.

Then Margam Knuckle Yard

Departing Briton Ferry

Bashing trees out the way on the approach to Tondu. This section of line is very rarely used and left leaves wedged in the side grills.

Squeeling to a halt at Tondu on the return from Maesteg. With the signal set for the line to Bridgend, the signaller and another driver are waiting by the box.

60039 powering away after the pause. The locos were both quite smokey, presumably the long periods idling on the rear of the train not helping.

And finally passing Pontypridd on the way up to Tower Colliery.

All the photos from yesterday are here http://joalder.smugmug.com/Trains/Days-Out-2014/The-Taffy-Tug-2-Barry-Margam/ including a few of the Brush Bagnall industrials at Margam. Captions should come soon

Great set of pics Jo! I particularly enjoyed the Brush Bagnalls at Margam Yard, right up my street.  More depressed though by the shots of Briton Ferry Yard - I remember what was there and now it just seems to be endless bushes!

Such is progress apparently.

Thanks for posting the gallery

Is it time to retitle this thread as there is no sign of an end to the Tugs any time soon, they continue to haul the goods through Lincoln on my last visit today and to return to service gradually by DB? 20+ years & going strong.

2 thorns between 3 roses??

Cheers,

Phil.

Looks like a drawing from a Rev. Awdry book where a number of engines would miraculously "meet" to discuss Daisy's latest antics, or whether Duck was really a proper (ie ex-GW) engine at all, etc, etc.....
