I'm having similar moral battles over the price needed for a 5 BEL in Umber and Cream. Similar temptations with Hornby Gresley Suburbans in Maroon (or Crimson lake, whatever you want to call it), however at nearly £50 a pop, it makes a suburban rake expensive. I've always loved the coaling stage at Didcot as it's been part of the scenery of my life, and while I didn't have space for one had a quick look. Ye Gods, that's expensive! I'm just glad I was sitting down when I saw how much the Weymouth goods shed is! Still, that's not really madness. It looks like superlative modelling for the very highly skilled with very deep pockets. I would splash out the £22.50 on five canopy supports if I thought my building was up to it! If you get a chance to see them in the flesh so to speak you will be amazed at the quality. They are actually quite a bargain in respect of what you get for what you pay. They obviously aren't overpriced as 38/40 of the limited edition of the coaling stage have sold and that's something so specialist not any ordinary Joe with a thick wallet is going to buy. However one has to pay for quality & I'm afraid The Long Haired Controller would have bits of my anatomy off if I even considered buying one right now. The cost of the coaling stage is about what I want to build a shed to put a railway in & having just bought & furnished a house we simply haven't the cash... There was a model of a streamlined Cock o' the North sold for a BIN price of over £500, but it had the wrong size wheels and wrong tender, in the wrong box. I personally keep a database of prices realised for locos that I like. Over christmas a McGowan D9 kit went for £143 plus postage. I bought a D9 coupled with a N4/5 for £70 a few months ago. perhaps I should sell the D9 rather than build it, and wait for another one to turn up.
